Steam 101 (Steam survival guide)
Welcome to Steam!

At the request of many in the Steam community, I have compiled a starters guide for all new Steam users. In this thread I will outline informative/popular groups, useful friend finding threads, general steam information and helpful tips that will have you navigating Steam like a pro.

With that being said, I hope this thread increases your Steam experience. Now, on with the tutorial!

1. Steam Groups

To fully enjoy the many features Steam has available, you may want to join one of these official or public communtiy groups. Once you join one or all (Recommended) of these groups of interest you will be seamlessly transition from Steam rookie to a knoledgable member of the community. Each group has information, discussions, chat rooms, membership news updates and more available as soon as you join.

(Overview) The Community Market is designed to expand the Steam Economy beyond trading. Players can now buy and sell in-game items with other players for Steam Wallet funds.

(Overview) All things Big Picture Mode. Big Picture features the Steam Store, your Library of games, and your Community of friends, chat and feeds, all in a full-screen interface designed for use with a TV and controller.

(Overview) Follow this link to view the Steam discussion guidelines. Reading this will inform you of what is appropriate/inappropriate in the forums, actions that may lead to a ban or how to report users in violation and when it should be used.

4. Other helpful Steam tips.

To view your PC's system specifications while in Steam - Navigate to help in the top left corner of Steam desktop, select system information and your specifications will be conveniently be displayed.

To display a screenshot in the forums - Simply navigate to your header menu (Store/Library/Community/Username), hover over your username and select content form the drop down menu. Once in your content page, double click the photo/capture you wish to display. At the far left corner you will see a link location address, copy to clipboard and then paste it in the desired forum.

Small Mode - For users who need a little extra juice for those for those resource hungry games that eat up ram. Navigate to the top left of your Steam application (Steam/View/Friends/Games/Help) and select small mode from the view drop down menu.
This will allow Steam to operate using the smallest amount of resources and may get you an extra few FPS (Great for laptop/underpowered desktop gaming).

Now this is a surprise! I created this nearly three years ago and it instantly faded into the Steam discussions darkness, without a reply. Suddenly today, it recieves seven out of nowhere! I really appreciate the feedback all, it means a lot.

Now, considering this is incredibly outdated, I'll make sure to update the information within the thread by tomorrow to further assist the community.
