Games for older players (namely my Dad)
Hey guys,

I just installed steam for my Dad because he has a gamepad he's been wanting to try out. He's 67 years old and very new to gaming, so something fun but simple would probably be best. Along with that, a low cost or free to play game would be ideal because I'm not sure he wants to invest a ton into gaming quite yet... Still has to decide if he likes it or not haha!

Anyways, thanks for your time!

Hi Wren - nice thing you`re doing here :gs_joy:

Some suggestions for gamers of all ages, - some only for adults( and about the prize : Steam games always ends up on sales )
You can also take a look at my library, and ask me about a particular game if you want to .

1. Point & Click adventures ( These are great fun to play together - you two should try ! ) :
If your father likes to laugh :
"Depona"
Fairytale stories - but grown-up enough :
"The Dark Eye" - games ( "The Blackguards" is a strategy game I haven`t tried, but the two others are P & C )
Or if he likes to solve a mystery :
"Sherlock Holmes"
"Broken Sword"
Horror, and actually a great story :
"The Cat Lady"
"Sangfroid, tales of Werewolves"

There are lots of great P&C games !

2. He might like card games , like "Fairie Solitaire" or for more advanced card games ,
" Magic the Gathering" - the last ones especially if he is into Fantasy .

3."Might & Magic, clash of heroes"
"Puzzle quest"

4. If he would like a visual story,
"Dear Esther" is beauttful - He might love that one !

And lastly - for cheap - but quality games, you should try the "Humble Bundle " -- they have new offers all the time, and all are keys you can add to your Steam library . This particular bundle will cost you from 1 $ to 12 $, whatever you choose to pay, and how many of these games you want :

What about Euro Truck Simulator 2? I've heard it works well with gamepads, and there's a demo for it on the store page :)

The base game's been in lots of bundles, so it'll probably be on cheap during the summer sale if he likes it enough to make a purchase worthwhile. :longhaul:

To the Moon ~~~~

He should be able to enjoy a good story on a relatively new platform for him.
If he likes RTS

Rome: Total War
Empire: Total War

Farm for your life might be a nice one for him. You have to tend to crops and fight zombies by throwing veggies. There are quests but nothing too difficult.
UnReal-4-Life Mar 14, 2015 @ 9:50pm

you definitely came to the right place. Steam has games for everyone. I recommend the old school, simple, point click, hack and slash and definetly download and let him try out all of the free games...they are free...so you cant go wrong. The MMORPGs might be too advanced for your dad though. Good luck

If playing the game as intended is not a #1 priority, try open world games with great visuals. He might like wandering around the Assasin's Creed or Skyrim games, and later on get the hang of the stabby-stabby
