The Apple keyboard DOES offer certain useful functionality. If you're using an Apple display, it lets you dimand brighten your screen. You can activate Mission Control and Launchpad from the Apple Keyboard for easy application switching. You can control iTunes and adjust the volume. But that's really all it offers you.
Most of the functions I mentioned above can be bount to your standard function keys, which just means you lose that function key for other purposes. For example, if you bind Mission Control to F4, then you'll have to rebind "ready up" when playing MVM in TF2, since your F4 key triggers Mission Control.
There are also other keyboards out there which offer similar functions. My roommate is currently using an onn wireless keyboard with my old Mac Mini, and the only special function she cares about (volume adjust) works fine. (Special function is defined by having to press the blue fn key and then pressing the appropriate function key to perform functions like volume adjust or change tracks in iTunes)
The real problem with the Apple keyboard is that it is EXPENSIVE. It makes sense for the system because Apple designs everything itself and uses custom hardware for the computer, but there is no reason to charge that much for the few extra features offered by the keyboard.
Also the keyboard comes with a USB extention cable that ONLY works with the apple keyboard, which is obnoxious.
All of that said, I've tried several times to use a different keyboard. It always feels wrong. The jeys aren't in the right place for me and it throws me off as I try to get used to it. The last time I tried, I went nearly 2 weeks before I gave up on trying to get used to the new keyboard.
Regular keyboard and Karabiner app if you want to reassign any key.
I really don't like the wirelss keyboard though. It feels about the same, but there's no USB hub and no numpad, and it devours batteries.
