OBS works well, but it tends to want to export in a horrible compressed .flv format.
Instead of Google, you should try looking for screen recorders in the APP store. There are plenty of freebies out there, try a couple and see what you like.
The problem you're really having I think, is the fact that while your computer is fully capable of playing the games, the extra load of also recording them at the same time puts a heavy strain on the system and your performance suffers. Try out Quicktime and forget the audio for a but just to see if that works. Quicktime (being intigrated into the OS), should be the absolute minimal amount of strain on the system I believe. If it still suffers when Quicktime is running, you should forget about recording without suffering the FPS drop. If it works, well... Hit me up if you really want to know how I fixed my audio issues.
