Screen Recorder
Hello,
We all know if you look up "free screen recorder mac" in Google, you're going to come up with a bajilion shady sites.
I own a MacBook air 2013 and I can run games such as Unturned at around 70fps, or at least that's what it says it it. However when I use a screen recorder (thus far I've tried iShowU and Soundflower) they drop my fps to below 20. I don't mind if the frame rate drops to 30-40 but this is a bit much.
So, what can I use that won't give my computer a heart attack?
My computer is pretty capable of some things, I can usually run CS:GO at 45-50~ fps.
Thanks.

Why don't you use QuickTime Player? It runs quite good for me! :steamhappy:

If i screen record and sound record with my headset on, it likes to record the ingame sound too. Just check out my video on my account.

Quicktime Player is good but doesn't naturally support capturing the system audio. The last time I used it I had to pull a few tricks by setting up my system audio to play through my USB headphones and also through the audio out cable which normally went to my speakers, but had been swapped to instead feed right back into the "Line In" audio port. I then had to set up the system to accept both Line In and my USB mic as an acceptble audio input device. This is a kind of involved process which I don't really want to get into describing because there are many better ways out there.

OBS works well, but it tends to want to export in a horrible compressed .flv format.

Instead of Google, you should try looking for screen recorders in the APP store. There are plenty of freebies out there, try a couple and see what you like.

The problem you're really having I think, is the fact that while your computer is fully capable of playing the games, the extra load of also recording them at the same time puts a heavy strain on the system and your performance suffers. Try out Quicktime and forget the audio for a but just to see if that works. Quicktime (being intigrated into the OS), should be the absolute minimal amount of strain on the system I believe. If it still suffers when Quicktime is running, you should forget about recording without suffering the FPS drop. If it works, well... Hit me up if you really want to know how I fixed my audio issues.
