This sounds like the issue. I'm using 16 GB of ram (I have 2 8GB RAM modules).
I'm using a Intel HD Graphics 4000 (Default on the late 2012 mac mini) so I'm guessing yours is older than mine. Garry's Mod shouldn't be too hard on your graphics processer so I don't expect that to be an issue, though if it continues to give problems you may have to turn down the grafics. The error message you got there definatly sounds like it's a RAM memory issue since it outright says you don't have enough. Besides, if it was an issue with the grafics processer then you would be having the same problems on smaller maps as well.
Mac Mini's nowadays have been designed with an access pannel on the bottom to allow easy access to the RAM for upgrades. If you want to try it yourself (or with the help of a tech savy friend) I'd suggest watching a youtube video on it first. Remember, even a small static discharge can fry your RAM chip and destroy it. So you'll want to touch something metal before you touch the chips, and even then hold the chips by the edges.
If you buy the official Apple Ram, you'll pay a lot more than you have to, but you'll be able to take it down to the Apple store and get them to instal it for you free of charge.
Other than that, if you want to save a good chunk of change by getting third party RAM modules but don't want to install it yourself, you can most likely find local service centers which can install your new RAM upgrade for a modest fee.
Myself, I had no trouble installing my own RAM.
i use a mid 2011, and this has only happened once. nat any other times. i think im fine, maybe just have to trash some crappy screenshots, im trying to use as little as memory as possible, and by memory clean's standards, i can get a good 350 with steam open. if i can close the app i can get about a few hundred more, so yea, i think im fine, maybe turn down my settings but im fine for now, Thanks for the help guys!
