(Power A) Switch Pro Controller will NOT work in game but works in Steam.
I have a Power A Wireless Switch Pro Controller that is recognized in steam and I can navigate the menus no problem but any game I launch will not recognize the controller EXCEPT for CS GO (gyro enabled and everything but that game is best played with a mouse ironically). I've toggled the settings on and off for Nintendo, generic and Xbox and other settings but it still will not work in game. I've plugged it in and a new configuration popped up but that did not help either.
The same controller works with Open Emu on my Mac and Switch Lite of course with no issues.
I tested my friends PS4 controller and that was recognized in all games, however the control sticks were reversed and needed mapping.

When you don't have Nintendo Configuration Support/Steam Input enabled, you are relying on the game's individual support of the Switch Pro controller / the way it operates. If a game natively supports the controller, it will be over BT (I don't know of any game that natively supports the wired Switch Pro output - they could but I haven't seen any implement it).

When Nintendo Configuration Support is enabled, you are telling Steam to take the Pro controller input and emulate (in most cases) an Xbox 360 controller to the game, the controller most likely to be supported by games, especially Windows side.

I'm still unsure if Steam's Xbox gamepad emulation works on M1 Macs but perform this step:
System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Accessibility > Enable Steam
Then enable Nintendo Configuration Support and test if things are working.
It will require the game have gamepad support.

If you've picked a game that uses the Steam Input standard, I believe the emulation will function correctly,

I don't know if the Steam overlay also has to be active for the gamepad emulation to function, on Windows it's necessary because that's how the emulation works there, but on Mac it's via a driver. Anyway, pressing the Home button when in-game should open the overlay if it's enabled (which it most likely is).

The thing that should work is keyboard/mouse emulation but first test how things go with gamepad emulation.

May the gods bless you. That was it, I just needed to check the enable steam box in the mac security window. I had given up hope for weeks and did not want to buy another controller. Thank you
Wait - the gamepad emulation works??? I recently got the security permission step from Aspyr's support and I've been wondering if that is the missing step (I don't own an M1 to see how things are working). I've been saying the gamepad emulation still requires work on M1's but kept wondering why Valve would have things enabled if it couldn't function...

So does the game show Xbox prompts/say you're using an Xbox controller?

If you're able to try with the controller wired, I would appreciate it (in your own time, no rush). Just want to get a grasp on how things are working
Not sure about the xbox emulation piece. Here is what I did: Checked yes in the privacy/security menu in Mac settings. Went to Steam and checked yes for Nintendo Pro Controller and Generic Game Pad support but turned all other systems off (playstation/xbox). Switch and Generic were switched On. Steam Input per game was Forced on or Switch/Generic (both appear to have worked). Went into Big Picture Mode and then launched the game. Configs loaded box popped up as usual but the controller worked this time unlike before. I am not sure if it said specifically xbox configs but it should not have since I turned it off. I have not tried this wired yet only wireless.

Will add some edits when I am able to test again.

Hey, thanks for this - be free to just play 😉
I wasn't thinking before, gonna drop the permission step in the thread where the guys weren't having success with Steam's gamepad support... There'll be a pool of experiences to glean.😎👌

I definitely see what you mean now with the xbox emulation control set up. Those notifications did not pop up the first time but they do when I plug in the controller now. Things worked perfectly the first time but when the xbox emulation notification came up during start up it causes some issues with games and then on the other end when I only have Nintendo control support and play FPS games the gyro controls are not very helpful and I cannot turn them off.
The notifications are for Xbox 360 controllers?

To disable the gyro you go to the game's controller config and blank the gyro control:

1. Right-click the game in Steam Library > Manage > Controller layout

2. Select the gyro: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2838703959&fileuploadsuccess=1

3. Set Style of Input to None > Back > Done
