So what is a mac user to do if their microphone IS NOT working AND the Steam app DOES NOT SHOW up as an option to grant permission to?

If I could attach a picture, it would show:
Steam client application
Built: Dec 16 2019, at 08:57:38
Steam API: v020
Steam package versions: 1576550254

Security & Privacy (system preference pane open)
Microphone (selected)
"Allow the apps below to access your microphone."
Steam is not listed as an app with access to the microphone.
Google Chrome is and is enabled.
Slack is and is enabled.

Can confirm that the voice chat in steam does not read anything from my Microphones. I can select either in my FRIENDS LIST SETTINGS > VOICE and "Start Microphone Test" to zero effect.

It's as though the following is missing from the Info.plist:
<key>NSMicrophoneUsageDescription</key>
<string>Steam will need the microphone to support voice chat</string>
However manually adding something like that does nothing after the app is already launched once… so I'm not sure what options I have other than asking Valve to ship an update (with a fix).

It appears until Valve fixes this, you might be able to use recovery mode and turning off system integrity, to manually provide the permissions. https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/2/1631917609749377397/ but it's a bit crazy to expect users to go that route.

This is a disgrace. The fact that this is still a problem months after it was reported. The fact that you have to reboot and disable system integrity says a little bit about how unlikely people are going to be bale to fix this themselves.
