you have to point to the directory your installing to first. and anytime you update your steamcmd console you should quit and restart it thats what i do at least. steam just always wants to be started fresh. even file system changes with steam running can cause issues so even steam needs to be restarted after some types of file changes take place.

you want to use force_install_dir C:\folder\folder\folder\destination first then use login anonymous.

from there with the directory set ahead of time you can proceed to app_update 000000 -validate or whatever it is your doing though im sorry ive never witnessed steamcmd being used to download work shop items. :gordon:
oh yes i also noticed now too that certain games require steam access a certain way. when updating something open to the public like source dedicated server you dont need to login to an actual account, but here be it a work shop item access steamcmd is requiring you login to an actual account, most times to prove that you bought the game for its use with even sometimes the games dedicated server stuff. maybe with work shop items you always have to be logged in, login son :gman:
it could also be relative to your having a brand new account you may be prevented from accessing the steam work shops at the moment because your account is still too fresh or at least you have no level on here from what i can see :eli:
