Steam CMD code 5 login error?

So I don't think I'm the only one who has had this issue. New to the server thing. But learning well. I get the error message logging in user <username> to steam public ... Login failure. invalid password FAILED with result code 5. So the placing login <username> hitting enter and then being prompted for password. Then it's still wrong? Giving me FAILED with result code 5. I changed the password twice, just too make sure it is the right password. So Idk what I am doing wrong here?

sorry for thread necro but I just ran into this error even without any signs.

The key is to use apostrophe ( i. e. 'password' ) instead of no signs or quotes (")

Almost forgot I even posted this. But whatever the case. I ended up getting my server fully working going threw spigot or something. Even though they don't update anymore. It's great easy access to commands for being able to quickly boot unwanted players and such.
