Like it or not what he says is true.
Maybe your time isn't worth much, but for some people its a minor price premium for a full setup.
The opinion of specialist magazines isn't what you claim. Premium gaming grade pc's are expensive but you pay for the whole package, not just the spec.
Not at all true. When the parts are the same, how can you claim they're premium. They aren't.
And to claim professionals "isn't what I claim" is utter foolishness. Certainly as far as PC Gamer goes, they DO know what they're talking about.
I certainly have not said anything against people buying them - if that's what they want, fine.
All I'm saying is, that for the same goods that perform precisely the same (and last the same length) you can get them 40% cheaper. It is as simple as that.

Just stop bashing stuff based on envy or whatever. Its a high end device for a high end customer, you might quibble over a 100 bucks or quid, other people consider that chump change. Not everyone is you.
Anyways, quibbling over price of "gaming" laptops is just laughable start with. You don't buy gaming grade laptops if you are concerned about "value".
Ah. now we're talking.
In a nutshell, it's going to be unlikely you're going to get ANYTHING that will play Battlefield to any degree of quality at all. Not for that price.
You can pick up a budget PC for £400 but you'll most likely have to change the graphics card or something, as they traditionally put them together and cut corners somewhere.
So, for that price you're going to get a PC that can only offer low(ish) performance. Once you realise this, let's proceed.
I'd recommend you have a look at Argos (yes, I know) for their regular deals - you can get laptops that can give you a reasonable all-in-one solution if you're lucky and a deal is on. Also, have a look at PC World (online, NOT the stores) and check out their refurbished stock. You can pick up decent deals from there (and they'll still have the warranty as per the Sale of Goods Act).
If you had more to spend this'd be much easier. But, let me have a look around for a little while and I'll see what else I can find.
I have no wish to argue over this. I've said my stance, and that is it.
Although I would add you ALWAYS look for value, unless you're incredibly foolish. Value can be found wherever you look in every market. I always haggle, for one. This is something ANYONE with a family can tell you - you DO start looking for value in everything otherwise you simply will have to sacrifice.
Oh, and do note that ONE linked review for ONE laptop is not anything you can draw general conclusion for the whole range.
That's precisely it. Alienware parts are bought from others, so this is exaclty what I mean about paying over-the-odds for the SAME product; I mean PRECISELY the same.
This is also why I found MSI to be pretty darned good.
That's what I mean - the majority of the parts in this MSI laptop are made by MSI. Ergo, you don't have to pay as much because the overheads aren't as much - simple logic :)
To extend from the Ferrari analogy Dell used earlier - this is why Lamborghini are such a great alternative to Ferrari's. They've been able to keep their prices low as they use a lot of parts from their mother company, Volkswagen, such as Audi drivetrains.
Although I do have to say if I ever had the cash to own one, I would have a Ferrari as I loved driving the 355. Absolute joy.
Custom PC and Alienware laptop, perfect combo.
If Alienware was so bad and so overpriced, why is it still going, why is it one of the best selling pre-build gaming lines? I bet it outsells MSI, Falcon Northwest...10-20x over. lol.
Nothing stuck up about common sense and thrift.
As I said, if you want to pay for Alienware more power to you. I, however, agree with the professionals - I pay less for the SAME GOODS. I hope you have a peep inside your Alienware one day.
Do note that nowhere did I say it was poor kit - it's not.
Anyway, regardless, my "perfect" setup is what I've got - over 70 platforms. Each to their own.
I never said ONE magazine, I only PC Gamer. I clearly said "professionals" in the plural.
Why they are still going means absolutely nothing. Apple still sells, so does Bang and Olufsen, despite them being 100% Philips internally.
That bears no relation.
Anyway, can we now leave this please? You're clearly not going to listen to what is said, and it's fruitless going over this.
i have an m15x and i love every bit of it.
i actully want to get a m11x too just so its a little easier to take around with me
