I was debating this a while ago OP, and I went with a PS Vita. In my opinion, the Vita has the better selection of JRPGs and the whole Persona series. (Plus on PS Vita you can get Persona 4 Golden, one of the best games I've ever played) I know it may cost a lot right now, but give it a few months, its a much better investment IMO for hundreds of hours per Persona game, and I do not regret playing any of them.
Legitimate releases, mind you. Custom firmware PSP has access to a lot more SMT games.
