Is it just me, or does EVERYONE hate sequels or remakes?

TL;DR Why does everyone hate sequels/ remakes? Is it a nerd/ fanboy/ some other thing?
I often see people complain when a new game is released that it "Is not like the old one", "It is stupid now", "It ruined the franchise", etc.
A good example that is a hot topic right now is Saints Row IV.
People always say "They ruined the game, it used to be about gangsters now it's about stupid aliens and super powers." I kind of like how they are going in a silly direction, it kind of makes it a "Just for fun" game. I don't want to play a game where it is a story of "We started from the bottom now we're here" over and over again.
Also, Thief is taking a lot of flake because apparently there are a lot of changes. I never played a Thief game, but I think the game looks pretty interesting and fun and different.
A different example: Star Trek
People say it is just a cheap knock off, and doesn't have the true essence of the original.
I never sen the old ones, and I said I didn't want to see the new ones, but I did see the new ones and really enjoyeed them, but apparently a lot of people from the old days didn't like them.
Really though, change isn't that bad, especially considering companies try to appeal to the new generation.

Also, judging by the patterns of remakes and sequels, I think there is a good chance the next HALF LIFE will get a lot of flak when released or announced.

For me, it depends on whether the sequel's actually good or not. I have several series where I prefer at least one of the sequels over the first game. Examples include: Sonic (I prefer 2 and 3 & Knuckles over the first game, also Sonic 4 episode 2 over episode 1), Spyro (I prefer 2 and 3, again, over the first game), Crash Bandicoot (same as Spyro), Ratchet & Clank (same again) and finally Jak (same again).

I think Naughty Dog have generally done what I mentioned in one of my previous posts - kept their key staff in good fettle, and importantly known when to leave a franchise alone. Frankly I find them rather refreshing for a major studio these days, as they're unafraid to move to new franchises, unlike many of the majors.

At least, until I heard they were working on Uncharted 4, so we'll see.

Well Still though I just feel like the pokemon games are all crap cause two many of them are alike I don't maybe it's simple cause I grew up with Sony where you din't have to love a game or else you don't like the system. I mean I can not like playing metal Gear cause I suck balls at playing but still love another game on the system. Perhaps this is the most annoying thing I hate is that you have to love Pokemon Mario and LOZ or else you have no fun on the system I only like LOZ though cause there's no copycat games like New Super mario Bros where they changed nothing. All around I like Sony better cause they don't try to force you to either like there games or not even play the system :P

Not really, as far as Nintendo goes. They've had a lot of 3rd party games since the Gamecube. I agree about Playstation though.

Most PS3 games are crappy sequels, actually. Yes, it has more decent games than the Wii but 90% is a massive overexaggeration. Also, again, Gamecube had a ton of excellent 3rd party games, DS had an absolute crapload, 3DS has a bunch and WiiU's getting a load.

Again, that's sweeping nonsense.

Yes, there's a lot of crap on the Wii, but as I've listed there, not ONE of those games is a poor one, and not a single one was anything related to Mario or Pokemon or even any of the shovelware crap.

So, yes you could say there's an awful lot of crap on the Wii, but that's not at all the point.

I could similarly use the good games on the Gamecube, the N64, the SNES, or even the NES as examples to show you how wrong you are and are overlooking things.

The point is you're making a poor assumption and dismissing a whole PLATFORM of games, just because you foolishly have seen SOME that you don't like. That's just silly.

And no, there are no "better" options on the PS3 versus the Wii - the good games I listed (and more) are every bit as varied as the great ones on the PS3. Again, you're making crass assumptions.
