TotalBiscuit does first impressions not reviews meaning skipping parts of the game doesn't really work (althought he does do it sometimes) and how usually does do a summary towards the end of his vids
TB does long vids because it's something that isn't done by many others and it's what his community wants. There no need for him to pander to that market when there are a million other YTers who do that content
Is there really a meaningful distinction between the two? He has referred to his "WTF" videos as "reviews" too, I'm pretty sure he has. His YouTube blurb says this about the WTF series: "John TotalBiscuit Bain produces the most popular gaming first impression series on Youtube. This is the place to get a longer, more honest look at the games you are interested in buying. This is uncut, unaltered gameplay with live commentary which analyses and critiques the title. WTF is? is like a game demo that's played for you which focuses on giving you all the information you need to make a smart purchase decision." - 'critique', 'analysis', 'commentary', 'all the information you need to make a smart purchase decision'; essentially a review of sorts in all but name.
Fair enough about the length and not skipping parts, as that is his UPS thing (though personally not a fan of it). Does he sum up the review in the end of his videos? I'm not sure, a summary should just be a bullet point list of pros and cons mentioned, followed by conclusion and whether it is worth the asking price. TB sorts of just gives his general disposition towards the game and maybe decides if it is worth the full price or not. Personally I'd prefer if his reviews were a bit more structured and he didn't have to juggle between playing and talking, but that's just me.

No retractions.
He simply lied through his teeth on the subject as proven by that in depth video which even puts a timer on the segments in question. Angry joe is a sjw, and they are people who angrily rant about supposed injustice while commiting their own, they are hypocrites who smear innocent people. He clearly lacks integrity to have gone that far and be so callous, he has a platform and he used it to damage people who actually produce content, and for what? To side with those who aren't even really interested in this hobby at all...its a joke.
i agree that his "WTF" vids are mostly if not completely unstructured (i'm mostly fine with this) and he does repeat him self quite alot (this can be irritating) and by summary did i mean that general disposition towards the game and maybe decides if it is worth the full price or not. i never felt that he needed bullet points or a script myself because others can do that much better than TB ever could.
Fair enough.
He ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up one ONE fact. so what? there no need to discard his reviews compleatly just because he ♥♥♥♥ on ONE fact.
Did you watch the video? He didn't screw up one fact, he deliberately went out of his way to smear a game and misrepresent the facts. Either he's lazy, or stupid, because he played the game right? Thats HIS JOB. So either he lied about playing it, or just as bad if not worse, he knowingly lied about the game after playing it and knowing better.
A person in his position has a responsibility to not just be fair, but to not abuse his power, his platform. He has a lot of viewers and subscribers so the amount of damage he can do through lies is multiplied by a million. So when he doesn't take responsibility, or even just consider it a thing he should be concerned about, he deserves no respect. He trashed the work of hard working developers and damaged their livelyhood because he mindlessly jumped on a sjw bandwagon. As the saying goes, with great power comes great responsibility. And of course if you are going to get on a moral high horse you best not be a hypocrite.
TB does first impression style reviews...
That video you linked, I stopped watching after the second time he said "nerdy ♥♥♥♥"... The guy seems like a pretentious pseudo intellectual.
Is there a real difference? He even calls them "reviews" and they serve the exact same function as them.
Probably posted by a Redditor then, look at the title of the video.
However their reviews tend to be:
* overly nit-picky & simple-minded
* inconsistent & hypocritical
* rude & childish
* dishonest (TotalBiscuit)
How seriously should you take reviewers that consider '♥♥♥♥' to be a useful adjective ?
At least professional reviewers at GameSpot and IGN can express themselves properly.
TotalBiscuit in particular lacks the ability to see things from other perspectives.
For someone who is marketed as 'the smart guy" he is extremely narrow-minded.
AngryJoe only reviews games that he is actually interested in, this is very honest of him.
TB on the otherhand will review games that he knows he doesn't like, its cheap and dishonest.
Why ?
Reviewers place themselves in the role of a potential purchaser.
This should assume they are actually interested in the game or at least somewhat objective.
If they can't be objective they should only review games they are interested in.
This is not just a critique of TB but also of GameSpot, IGN, Rev3, GiantBomb and the rest.
True, TB does not call his WTFs a 'review' but the fact is that people who watch them use as reviews. So in practical terms they ARE reviews.
