Doesn't matter. All we would know is what IS and not what WAS. Even if something changed, unless you know it has changed, there is nothing that could be done.

It is impossible to alter the past. For example: The traveller wants to go back and kill Hitler before ♥♥♥♥ started to happen. Then Hitler wouldn't have become the face of Nazi-Germany and in the now altered presence no one would feel the need to go back in time to kill a random guy named Hilter, who died in an "accident". This results in Hitler never beeing killed by assassine from the future and ♥♥♥♥ happens. And now we're in an infinite loop. Have fun :P

That doesn't prove much. In Doctor Who, they describe 'fixed points', where certain events must happen. It could be something like that because of what you said.

Accordng to the best minds who held a conference on this, the ability to travel through time could be accomplished by spinning an infinitely long cylinder at the speed of light.

However, you would only be able to go back as far as the time when the machine was invented. So, you would know that your invention was successful for as soon as you finish the machine time travelers should pop up, this being as far back as they could go.

I do remember seeing that on the Science channel once. Either that, or it was the discovery channel. Who is to say though, maybe it's been accomplished before, just not by humans.
