Any (HORROR) RPG games out there?
I've played many types of horror games. In fact, it's hard for me to find new ones or games I may have missed. I need help everyone... I'm looking for something like a free roam rpg like Fallout 3 or New Vegas. SOmething that isn't as high in graphics since my computer isn't that good. Something like a dungeon crawler maybe... Any ideas of a (TRUE HORROR) rpg would be great! Oh and don't hold back. If the game's challenging, I don't care. Get as gory and as nasty as you can come up with. I don't care if it's on STEAM or not. I'd also prefer single-player please.

Not an rpg, but STALKER can be terrifying at times. Is free roam to boot.
Sweet Home for the NES.

I don't think there's many free roam horror rpgs out there since most horror game developers tend to make their games more linear but try googling it :)

I've tried time and time again... No luck.

The original corpse party sort of counts, although it's mostly a adventure game. The only battle is against the big baddy, the rest is puzzle solving (I think I've only finished the psp remake)

Well... Thanks anyway... I've found hundreds of games allunique in their own way. I'm simply supprised it hasn't been done yet as far as I'm aware. Havn't found a game quite like what I'm looking fore.In terms of story, gameplay, enemies, and setting, it seems so easy to put together... In terms of programming, it'd be difficult.

Yep, the Vampire games are probably the closest you are going to come to a true RPG in a horror-esque setting. Bloodlines especially. It's not true horror, but it's pretty dark and creepy, and a few moments really are close to pants-peeing scary. Although they are not free roam.

Other than that I would also sign the Stalker suggestion already made.

And possibly the Diablo series? Those are pretty dark too.

The Secret World
Even if this is not single player I still want to reccomend it due to the fact that it's very playable solo and the storyline is fantastic for an mmo, and it's free to play after you buy the game.
It's not true horror but I'm not sure you'll find such a game, yet.
Very lovecraft inspired with hints of Vampire Bloodlines settings.

I'm playing The Secret World right now, even though there are some horror elements it's not strictly horror, I've seen people call it a mix of X-Files, superheroism and Lovecraft indeed, and it's a Heaven for those who love getting indulged in both ancient and urban myths and legends and in conspiracies. The way (important, always fully voiced) quests are issued by NPCs reminds me of Rockstar games narrative and style-wise, with the usual MMO free roaming, and they offer some good variety and lore background, even require some actual brains/puzzlework to be solved. It's a fine game solo-wise so far, I bought it for the story and lore and don't feel disappointed, they had the guy working on it who made the well-received "The Longest Journey" adventure series, so I guess that's not a big surprise.
