What are the best RPGs you've ever played?

What are the best RPGs you've ever played? You can make a list of three games, four, five. etc. You can list up any game you've had a good experience with, as long as it is an RPG.

I have played loads of RPGs, and im currently searching for some new RPGs to play. So if you would help me, I would really appriciate it.

My list of my favourite RPGs would be this:
1. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
This is the best rpg I've ever played. No doubt. It has an amazing atmosphere and a storyline which is just... magic. I got sunk into the game and I have probably played it for many hours. (I played this game without adding it to my steam account, I have the cd version)

2. Dragon Age 1
I normally dont like the concept of having a party of heros instead of just one hero. One hero is my type of game play mostly. But this game kind of just dragged me into it. It has fantastic gameplay and the combat is "bloody" fun. Yes, its a lot of blood. My favourit part about this game is probably the characters. I fell in love with Morrigan, almost, for real. And some of the other characters I just.. I felt like I really knew them. I felt like we had a real relationship. It is kind of hard to explain, but im sure anyone that has played Dragon Age can relate. Haha

3. The Witcher: Enhanced Edition
A dark and magic game. The combat isn't the very best, but its classy, so, I like it. But this game really nails the story. One of the best storylines I've ever played. Sunk into it, and just played it for days. I love it.

4. The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind
Old and classic. I would play this game any day over Skyrim or Oblivion. The graphics isn't the best. Has been ages since I played it though.

5. Gothic 3
Open rpg. I never got to much hold of the storyline, lol. I just really enjoyed running around and either helping towns or attacking them. It was great fun. Of course, there was a lot more of the game that I enjoyed, it just takes so long to write it all down.


TL;DR: I want new rpgs. What should I try?

Try Demons souls and Dark Souls. though I warn you you may need a walkthrough just to finish them. I know I did.

Both of them dont look like much when it comes to story but if you look deeper you will find one of the most unique storys to ever be put into a video game.

well most of the games im going to list arnt on PC acctualy but these are my favorite RPG's
1.the wolrd ends with you (DS)
2.kingdom hearts (PS2 PSP DS 3DS gameboy)
3. Kingdoms of amalur. was really good as well (PC xbox PS3)

Dungeons and Dragons. The pen and paper version with all it's die rolling glory.

Final Fantasy 2 (US), Xenogears, Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior 4, Skyrim, Oblivion.

That is my top 5. In that order. Last two are tied.

valkyrie profile 2, final fantasy 8, 9,10 and 12, these are on ps2. so far the only pc rpg i like is sacred 2.

yeah i enjoy the story so far better then that other open world RPG (cough skyrim) i like the crafting and pretty much everything about the game i cant really say anything more about the game

And yes, Skyrim was a terrible game compared to the other games in the elder scrolls series.

...I think the best RPG I've ever played is easily Monster Hunter. Nothing comes close..

My favorite RPG would definitely have to be Fallout 3. I put more time into that game then any other game so far, it was wonderful.

I've always been into post apocalyptic worlds tho :3

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is really good, but it has the modern mainstream railway-leveldesign

Dragon Age 1 is ok

Witcher: havent played it yet

Morrowind: gameplay is interupted every 5 minutes by running to traders to get rid of useless inventorystuff

Gothic 1 and 2 are much better than Gothic 3.


I think the best RPGs are the old ones with tactical combatsystem like, Fallout 1 and 2, Das Schwarze Auge Series ,Bug Rogers Series, Pools of ... Series, Final Fantasy Series, Might and Magic Series...

i also liked the Action-Adventure-RPG "Silver" and the old Westwood-RPGs (Lands of Lore, Eye of the Beholder Series)

Try some Bioware Games: Jade Empire, Star Wars Kotor Series etc.
or Arx Fatalis(for just one hero instead of a party)

I could check them out. But, graphics has a little meaning to me. And therefor I can not enjoy a game with graphics like Gothic 1 enough.

I know that isn't a good argument or something, but im just saying. I don't care much for graphics, but it cant be much worse than Morrowind for example.

Bloodlines is my all-time number one too, and Dragon age and The Witcher are in the tops as well, along with the original Fallout games. I really enjoyed Amalur and Mass Effect as well, and of course the old Planescape and Baldur's Gates.
