You can't return gift cards, just spend them. If you have a friend who shops at gamestop, you can sell it to him for the value of the card.
My card has an expiration date – what does this mean?
If a card “expires,” it can no longer be used and the purchasing power remaining on the card disappears. While some cards do not expire, others may expire from 1–5 years after they are purchased. It is a good idea to know if a card has an expiration date, and to use it before that date. When the federal Credit CARD Act of 2009 goes into effect in August 2010, cards covered by it will not be allowed to expire before 5 years. Additionally, there is a growing trend among national retailers to eliminate expiration dates.
What can I do with an expired gift card?
Contact customer services of the company/store that issued the card and ask them to restore the balance or give you a cash refund. Many companies recognize that good customer service is imperative to continuing business operations, and will honor this request.
My card has a “valid through” date – what does that mean?
Check to see if your card has a “valid through” date. This is not an expiration date, but you may have to contact the issuing company to trade your card in for a new card before you can use it. The reason for this is that the magnetic strip on the original card may no longer be readable.
Always know your rights.
Fade: Normally a lot of shops won't let you buy other gift cards with gift cards... it has to be purchased with money. (Although I am not sure how far that extends and if it's the same in the US.)
Do you have the reciept? Because without it returning it may be difficult. (You have to prove you bought it, etc, else people could scam a shop by returning gift cards they have stolen etc.)
I have found 2 links you may want to look at.
Gift-card return laws: http://www.ehow.com/about_5345258_gift-card-return-laws.html This has a link to a site were you can check return laws in your state.
How to return a gift card: http://www.ehow.com/how_4704860_return-gift-card.html
Hopefully these shall help. I am not in the US though.... so these links are the best I could do. I hope you are able to change it for something more fitting. (But bless your mum... she tried.)
How is it rude to Return a Gift card you're not going to use? The money will either Expire, or you just buy things you didn't want, and you're forced to buy them, making you not happy, and the person who bought for you thinking you would be happy then seeing you not happy, would make them not happy, and feel like ♥♥♥♥.
Also, if I was to give it away, that's $100 just giving away to someone. The gift was intended for me, and it's of no use to me at all.
This is why you give people cash when you gift them. So the person who's giving the gift doesn't have to feel like ♥♥♥♥ when you're not happy or when you return their gift.
Cash=Happyness
Gifts=Happyness for people who want that gift, or for little kids.
I personally couldn't give a crap about Gifts on Christmas becuase that's not what it's about, but when you have wasted $100 bucks on someone who's not enjoying it, or didn't want that. Why even bother?
Thank-you :) I wasn't sure.
Not ungratefull, to be honest I didn't want anything. Like I said in the post, "I'd rather have the money returned to my mom, then see it go to waste." I don't use Gamestop because the price of their games is out-ragous and they have no PC games, at all. I think I'll just take Fades Advice and buy a steam Gift Card. Stupid polocies, You can buy a new Game, and if it's not opened you can return it for a full refund. Yet a Gift card, un-used you can't return. God I hate Gamestop, they are the biggest scammers. Can't wait for a bigger and badder Gaming company, to whipe out the Ripp off Gamestop.
