The reason so many games have adopted this business model is because of how profitable it is. People can shell out vast sums of cash for a single game over a couple of years once they're suckered in.
As Canti poited out, you will pay more in the long run for those games too.
The trend of monthly fee mmo turning f2p isn't always true. Several that I used to play that turned f2p had many issues. Many of the bet items could only be purchased or required so much effort as to be almost impossible to get. Having to pay for bag slots with realy money only. Access to certain dungeons required you buying access, most the time the access was only for a month, then you had to but it again.
Add it all up and it cost more then the game + monthly fee. Only diffrence is you choose when to pay instead of the same day every month.
F2p games tend to be terrible too. Poorly made, graphicaly bad, poor gameplay and community. Not to mention all the bots and cheaters that pop-up. Ragnarok Online is a good example. They used to have a paid server and a f2p server. They then merged them into a f2p model. Prices skyrocketed due to all the bots farming.
While it is your opinion, you are far from right on the issue, especialy when generalizing like that. You are making too many assumptions with your theory.
Yes I like playing against other players and the topic is about Free to plays.. If you really want me to list singleplayer games then all you had to do is ask not be a punk about it.
I do like games that are competitive of a sort in nature because casual isn't that fun (in my opinion).
True Canti pointed a negative thing that is also a good thing. The positive spin is if a game has you wanting to stick around then it is worth its merit to have you willingly spend your money on it unlike the one hit wonders that make you pay out your butt only to disappoint you (**cough-Diablo 3-cough**) and such.
The great thing about Free To Plays is that you don't lose money on a game you don't want to play. You don't get ripped off your money by a Free to play without making a decision on your own on whether you are willing to spend your money. Unlike Battlefield or Call to duty or GW2 or The Secret World. You play it and then if its worth your time you play and if you want something more than you determine whether or not to use your money.
Sure you can make a fuss about graphics and etc. about FTP games but you get a choice about whether or not they're worth it. YOU make the choice. Something that games such as Diablo 3 and such don't and when they flopped-oh well your money was gone even if you didn't like the game.
Another thing is I already pointed out that most FTPs have there problems and flaws, but when they're fresh games with a populated gaming commune then that eventually irons all that mess out and again-YOU DECIDE whether the game has any merit 1) on you giving it time and 2) whether you spend money on it.
Another thing I like to point out is Demos are limited and most don't speak on the games the represent or the actual gameplay where with a FTP (a TRUE BLUE one) you experience the actual interface and gameplay. This is something demos can't reflect neither videos of gameplays.
Then you point out your personal problem with "earning" or having certain items not available to you. See that is where choice comes in. You can continue playing the game without those or you can decide the game is worth paying money to recieve those items or you can call it quits and ragequit because a sub gets a green lolipop and and you got was candycorn (shame on the devs. Lol).
So really I'm not wrong on the issue except based upon your egotistical opinion of entitlement. If It is a FTP then really you should be greatful for anything given freely and ignore anything that is not and if it bothers you so much maybe you need to give your spot to someone it wouldn't bother.
As to my theory-what is my theory besides I think FTPs deserve a big spot up there with the other game genres plus maybe some respect.
Also what are these many assumptions YOU PRESUME I HAVE...
I pretty much agree with everything you had said except calling yourself a no lifer. Ownn what you are. Like Brony & Trekkie. Gamer. Gamer is a sub category of culture like Goth. Own it.
