More and more games are being designed with controllers in mind for the console market so if you want to play them best you'll need a controller anyway.
Also keyboard layouts don't really make sense, not for typing and definitely not for gaming. I would rather use the controls which were built from the ground up to be ergonomic and appropriate for gaming, than the one which wasn't but people happen to use because they got used to it.
I get that mouse is more precise but for me that doesn't beat comfort or ease of use.
yup, and i have every single function mapped to the controller, even the stupid ♥♥♥♥ like saluting and sitting down.. i use the bumper buttons to bring up submenus relating to other functions.. left bumper for example may be the stance commands to change stance modifiers, lean, sit down, etc.. right bumper isnt needed in MP but it brings up all the squad command stuff.. when i tap the X button it reloads, when i hold it itll bring up weapon menus to change weapons, change fire mode, secondary weapon stuff too, as well as turn on or off various weapon accessories
when i aim for example, it changes my directional pad to zoom in and out.. also mapped a few double commands, so i use one button to crouch, go prone, or stand up
when you figure out have 8 possible controls on the d-pad, four face buttons, start, back, both thumbsticks, bumpers, triggers which is 20 buttons alone not including the d-pad axis', then figure i can map two buttons specifically to new menus, piggyback weapon functions on the reload button, that gives me a possibility of about 80-buttons right there alone, then when you add double functions like double taps and holds.. it can effectively double that number
also, i'll do other things you simply cant do on a keyboard.. ill map my left trigger to aim down the sight or just shoulder a weapon when i push the trigger part way, have it zoom in when i push it further, can even have it zoom in the more i push the left trigger.. right trigger i can do things like set a light push to a single shot, and a full press to a full auto rate for fire (like the real life steyr AUG which has a progressive trigger that works just like that)
so when i here people sit here and have wet dreams over a keyboard having 100 useful keys.. it really doesnt mean much to me as i can map just as many functions to a controller and access each and every one without having to move my hand, without having to look for a key, no chance to accidently press the wrong key either
so you can see, i dont need 100 different keys to do 100 different functions and what i have is quicker, more intuitive as well, while still having movement in any direction at any speed in games that can support it, then the ONLY arguement the keyboard/mouse people can make at this point is aiming with the mouse, i aim just as well with a controller as i do with a mouse because ive done it enough, i have the precision with my right thumb for aiming, looking, etc.. i dont have nearly as much precision in my left thumb because thats primarily for movement which doesnt need it... so if i ever switch the thumbstick functions and tried to use my left thumb for aiming, id be as inaccurate as it as most KBM people are when they first try a controller which is where they get the assumption that its less accurate, theyre simply not experienced enough with a controller to be.. again, its their issue, not the controllers
Congratulations, you just explained my exact issue with controllers; multiple functions attached to the same button because there are too few buttons on a controller to use. I'd rather have crouch, prone, and stand up tied to different buttons so that I know exactly which one I'm going to use at all times.
By the way, the whole "map multiple functions to a single button to double the number of available actions" argument doesn't just apply to controllers. I could do that on a keyboard and double my already larger number of different actions.
Again, there's my problem with controllers: multiple actions assigned to the same input. Sure, it's cool and all that you can have different levels of zoom or whatever based on how much you're pushing on the trigger, but I much prefer having different buttons or at least repeated input on one button with another button to cancel (e.g. having RMB be used to aim down sights with 1 press, then zoom with 2 presses, then zoom further with 3 presses and maybe Mouse3 to cancel the zooming).
I can access those 29 keys mentioned earlier (36 if you count mouse inputs) without moving my hand, as well. I also don't have to look for keys, nor do I have any problems with pressing the wrong key. Also, it's totally impossible to press the wrong button on a controller, especially when you have 2-3 different functions on the same button, right?
Yes, because pressing RB to modify input then A then RB again to set input back to normal then X or whatever buttons you need to press is faster than just pressing two separate buttons.
I don't think controllers are particularly intuitive, with the exception of triggers. IMO it feels much more natural to aim using a mouse than a thumbstick.
Answer me this: can you do a 180 degree turn in a fifth of a second using a thumbstick? I didn't think so.
Mice are better than thumbsticks for aiming. The reason why is because you can turn significantly faster using a mouse than you can turn using a thumbstick. Not only can you turn faster, you can turn more precisely because mouse aiming is not acceleration based, unlike thumbstick aiming.
Also, I have a question: are you using aim assist in any of these games? Because one thing I do know is that console FPS games (with the exception of CS:GO, which is primarily a PC game) ALL have aim assist because thumbsticks are too inaccurate.
EDIT: By the way, are you typing with a controller as well? Because your spelling and grammar could use some work.
this convo tho...haha lol
