Anyone have some Horror movie recommendations?
I've already seen...

Attachment (2023)
What Keeps you Alive (2018)
Midsommar (2019)
Truth or Dare (2018)
Polaroid (2019)
Smile (2022)
Smile 2 (2024)
Color out of Space (2019)
Await Further Instructions (2018)
The Owners (2020)
Kill List (2011)
Oculus (2013)
I am the Pretty thing that Live in the House (2016)
The Babysitter (2017)
The Breach (2020)
The Empty Man (2020)
Creep (2014)
I Trapped the Devil (2019)

I know Creep and The Babysitter have sequels, but I haven't seen them yet. Anyone know of any other good horror movies? It's ok if they're more of a dark comedy like The Babysitter or more sci-fi leaning or supernatural, I like all kinds of horror in a variety of flavors. :)

Hereditary (2018)
- one of the scariest films i've seen.
Barbarian (2022)
- amazing film. well worth it.
Raw (2016)
- one of a kind. a Julia Ducournau film.
Titane (2021)
- Winner of the Palm D'Or at Cannes. A must watch film from Julia Ducournau. Quite possibly my favorite film of all time.

i cannot believe another has seen "raw". one of my favourite horror films of recent times.

I've enjoyed horrors since a kid, but the one that really impact me are actually based upon true events... or zombies... or comedy...

28 Days Later
28 Weeks Later
Texas Chain Saw Massacre
IT (Stephen King)
The Conjuring
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil
Cooties
Split
Sinister
13 Sins
Zombie Land
(etc)

The Babysitter is actually quite a good action horror comedy movie, The Babysitter 2 not so much... but also worth a watch on a rainy day. I would recommend Cooties and Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, if you quite enjoy that horror comedy. Also, Cocaine Bear which is based upon a true story made into comedy horror.

For sci-fi leaning or supernatural, you want to watch the Aliens and Predator series of movies. Then there the actual tv series called Supernatural, which is an okay watch too. I actually like more the vampire leaning movies, such as Priest, Blade, Underworld and I am Legend. Not the goofy glitter vampires that is.

i have seen 13 sins and it is pretty good! but i am also recommending the movie on which its based, 13 beloved, thai horror film. the ending becomes a little more...surreal than american remake, but its quite good!

Cradle of Fear

5 mins in and that intro credits beat is fire! 🔥🔥🔥
(well that track sorta started good anyway, haha)

Also, I learned not to follow emo dudes into alleyways and hit 'em with sticks or you get your head ripped off! >.<

edit:
10 mins in and it goes from softcore pron to tentacle r!pe, lol. wtf? I don't think emo dude is a nice guy.... (:

Ok, so I watched Cradle of Fear last night as I was getting snowed in. It was decent with some creepy body horror(pregnancy scene! 🫣 ). Also the story the medical examiner told about the killer's victim who was mistakenly pronounced dead only to awaken locked in the morgue's freezer and slowly freeze to death was scary and so so sad!

I think the second story with the 2 thieves was my favorite.

  • Daybreakers is not your typical vampire movie insofar that it's about a vampire wanting to find a cure for vampirism so that humans stop being kept as chattel.
  • Where The Dead Go To Die is three stories about three kids who had messed up childhoods. Also there's a Satanic Labrador.
  • When Black Birds Fly is the story of an Orwellian puritan cult located in a gated community that turns worms into children.
  • Fatal Attraction was the first movie I ever watched - I was maybe 4 - and in turn is part of why I hate yandere characters.

Nice, never heard of any of these, thx!
op i actually have premade list for you, if this is okay. on wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extreme_cinema

not all of these are being horror films (though the majority are). some are psychological dramas, or thrillers, or other adjacent genres. but the majority on this list are what i would be considering to be many of the most disturbing horror films out there. obviously, some on this list are simple exploitation films filled with envelope pushing, but many are disturbing in other, more close to the heart ways.

Some of these movies are probably traumatizing though, I heard "a serbian film" is deranged & sick I wouldn't watch it, but then there's "audition" which is a good movie

yes, i have seen "a serbian film". its very gross, and i would not be considering it a good horror film either. it is one of those "how much can we be shocking the audience" kind of films. i dont recommend watching it to any.

"a serbian film" isn't even horror imo, it's mental vomit from a genuinely unwell person, I really hate people propping up stuff like that as high art

yes. it is immaturely written, concocted of a mind that a primary school child is finding scary, but to any adult they just see a director who is trying too hard to be edgy and failing with their gross spectacle. i agree, not even really a horror film.

that list is odd because there's some good movies but then there's "mental vomit" snuff movies like salo, serbian movie, etc

yes, it is simply listing all of them that would be considered "extreme cinema" so to speak. unfortunately this is encompassing both fantastic films of the horror genre, and edgy immature crap like and serbian film. but still, i recommend this list. i just think some research must be done to filter out the films on it that are not worth watching.

some on the list i would absolutely suggest:

- angst
- antichrist
- audition
- dogtooth
- frontier(s)
- funny games
- grotesque
- hacksaw
- hellraiser
- hostel
- infinity pool
- À L'Intérieur (inside)
- irréversible
- martyrs
- natural born killers (not horror)
- oldboy (not fully horror, but contains many psychological horror elements)
- reanimator
- relic
- taxidermia
- tetsuo the iron man
- ichi the killer
- the substance
- thanatamorphose
- where dead go to die

some i have seen on that list i would not recommend for various reasons, often due to pointlessly gross, juvenile exploitation with no worthwhile social commentary or such:

- a serbian film
- begotten
- caligula
- cannibal holo
- flower of flesh and blood
- the human centipede
- men behind the sun
- tumbling doll of flesh

edit: removed salo from do not recommend! i had it confused with another film.

I noticed that too. Some of those aren't even horror like Rambo 4(action-adventure) Requiem for a Dream(drug use, downward spiral) and Thriller: A Cruel Picture(70s sexploitation revenge story.)

I Saw The Devil. (2010)
Dumplings. (2004)

The first is a Korean film, and the second was made in Hong Kong. I haven't seen them in years, but they were the last horror films to elicit visceral reactions from me.

no way someone else other than myself has seen dumplings? great film, disturbing (and gross) premise.

The first time I saw this I had to watch it back-to-back bc I watched it with my cousin first(we both went in completely blind, we just randomly picked a horror movie), then I my friend came by a couple mins after it ended and after hearing us talk about it they insisted on seeing it too so we watched it again. So nasty! >.<
(I ended up watching it a bunch more over the next week or two with other family and friends bc they wanted to see it too. But me, my cousin and my friend who I saw it with first where just laughing at it and mocking it by then though.)

Anyway, I copy/pasted the ones you recommended to my Watchlist. 📺🍿😁
