But I will just add
Planescape: Torment
Albeit, its much more than a game.
i hate the nameless one. (i love the nameless one)
agreed. chris avellone is just a fantastic writer/designer.
- planescape torment
- kotor 2
- fallout 2 and new vegas
- pillars of eternity
- baldurs gate
- prey (2017)
I'm mostly just a huge fan of sci-fi and xenosaga's setting and feel is something I really crave more of but find pretty rarely in the anime space, I recommend the anime crest of the stars a lot if you also enjoy this kind of sci-fi
and yeah, the music is great, mitsuda for episode 1, yuki kajiura doing cutscenes in episode 2 and all the episode 3 music, shinji hosoe doing dungeon/overworld/combat music in episode 2, all of them brought a lot of unique stuff to the series
yes, ziggy and momos relationship is adorable.
yes, i agree. there are not so many "space operas" in anime fiction quite like xenosaga. they exist, but few i have found that reach the "epic" scale of xenosaga, where the entire universe is being in peril with many different stories and factions fighting among one another. it would be a dream of mine to see the full 6 game story realised, even in novel form or some such. thank you for recommendation! i will add crest of the stars to my list.
indeed! its a series unlike any other. despite its issues, i really love it.
i am still doing regular playthroughs of kotor 1 and 2. great games! they are also having huge modding scenes, kotor 2 in particular has many mods that are restoring cut content and such, i highly recommend a playthrough with the restoration mod!
EDIT: Abe's Oddysee too.
actually the entirety of the classic oddworld games would just barely be making the 20 year cut! (strangers wrath slightly misses it by some months)
i love the original quadrology of oddworld games. theres really nothing like like the oddworld series. i really liked new n tasty as well! soulstorm was...not great, to me personally. but i am still happy that oddworld inhabitants is releasing new games at all! i am really hoping they are not letting poor reception of soulstorm stop them from creating more.
the world of oddworld is so incredible to me. such a chaotic fusion of dark fantasy and dark humour. closest things i can compare are perhaps, jim hensons dark crystal? (love this movie btw, and the recent tv series).
Totally agree, Oddworld games are great. The remaster on Steam is fine too, but it loses some of the dark tone of the originals.
yes, new n tasty and soulstorm are definitely a bit more light hearted than the originals. it is leaning more into the humour, which was present but more incidental in the originals. but i am still enjoying it.
i really hope oddworld inhabitants makes more. i have always wanted to see the cancelled oddworld game "the brutal ballad of fangus klot" come to life. though it seems, many unused ideas for this were used in strangers wrath.
You do realize that its all a massive magic trick, in that it doesn't actually think? The idea of computer teammates working all together is one massive illusion to trick you into thinking its smarter than it is, right?
