Why shouldn't it be? Some people's entire sex life is pornography are you going to deny them a right to a sex life
It's about control. The uk government literally has a police force dedicated to arresting people that writes mean words.

That's not true. What they did in effect was to say that the internet is a public place. So if you threaten to kill or hurt people then it's just as illegal to say that on the internet as it is to say it to a persons face. The law is primarily aimed at terrorists.

The UK government meant well with the online safety act. They wanted to stop harm coming to children. Porn, grooming, things like that. The problem is that they don't really understand the internet and have not much clue how to go about it. What they have come up with is going to create more trouble that it solves. It not only affects porn, it will also affect platforms like Steam that sells porn games. But the truth is that one small country is not really in a position to unilaterally take on the giants of the internet. It will be interesting to see what happens, but no one apart from the UK government thinks this will go well...:funnycube:

They are probably suffering from PTSD after seeing what people do while watching spicy content. . . .

Who are you addressing as gooners? Just so they can reply to you.
Anyone acting like ungated anonymous access to an infinite supply of pornography is some kind of essential liberty.

Thanks for your reply.

Buying stock in VPN companies is gonna be the next big investment bubble. :SafeForWork:

And guys that saved all the currently legal "good stuff" to hard drives will be the next big "black market".

Even so-called "liberal" countries and states are adopting or planning to adopt more and more "internet-puritan-values", enforce real ID tracking on everything from pron to social media posts, and go full tilt on all manners of censorship and free speech oppression.

The fact we are seeing this from the "left" AND "right" means it isn't any one side pushing for it other than the people in positions of great power and control in the background.

Always be wary of people surrounding themselves with children like Adolf Hitler famously would, pushing laws "to protect the children" that can easily be used to oppress everyone, as they often use that to emotionally manipulate people into voting for them.

It's all about control and never about "protecting the kiddos".

The "government" should never be responsible for parenting, only PARENTS should. :steamfacepalm:

Godwin's law, ladies and gentleman. :steamfacepalm:

I could point out that communists do it too if that makes you happy. But that usually brings out the nutjob "not true communism" idiots.

Then we get into horseshoe theory if you want to go from there? :steamfacepalm:

TOR is just a CIA honeypot.
Says they'll supposedly want it for social media sites and anywhere else where it can be seen, doubt the government is gonna be successful at trying to tell reddit, steam, twitter etc to enforce this, gonna fall through AGAIN

Tell me you have poor opsec without telling me you have poor opsec.

Even if it were true, the CIA care about people like chomos and drug dealers, not coomers. They're not gonna care if you access pornhubs onion site

Pretty much. Notice how people say "mean words" but they never actually clarify what those mean words are. Very often when I've looked into the context it's been things like death threats and harassment. I get that some American free speech anarchists want to legalize these things but that's not the direction in EU and fortunately so.

I'd rather all porn sites got shut down entirely, I'm that kind of person.

I agree to be fair.

Never been overly into it and I say this as a married bloke.

Regulating porn like casinos are regulated is okay, however going the ID way is foolish and a big web security risk. Identity theft among other crimes could get more common, if said databases are hacked, which is not a matter of IF but rather WHEN.

Don't access it then.

Very simple.

Mass porn consumption has done untold damage to young people and there are numerous studies that support this.

Just think back in the day as a 90s kid we used to think EuroTrash and Emmanuelle on Channel 4 & 5 was worth staying up for!

Society has changed for the worse and many of you simply will never understand how or why.
