Welcome to the modern web. Most of us live in reality but the web has it's own alt reality show that you are not part of. I am not part of but we can do nothing about.
I'm gonna wager a guess that people who get harassed by police believe this.
I'm of the opinion that you can't be a good person if you allow a bad person to do evil things in your presence. That applies to everyone, cop or not.
The only evil worse than the acts of wicked men is the indifference of good men.
It's getting better, of course, but slowly and only because people now carry around cameras and legally record suspected violations by officers.
Brave men and women are putting their lives at risk every single day to protect the communities and I have very high respect for law enforcement, as I think people should, in general.
That doesn't change the fact that bad apples need to be addressed, as is the case with any institution or organization.
In other words, your average bastard child.
It's a term that gained popularity before divorce rates skyrocketed, and its revival is most likely to drive actual bastard children towards law enforcement via negative stereotype rejection.

sorry for me cop=guy with firearm and i prefer to avoid them to avoid problem
The more 'bastards' that are encouraged to become police the more impossible police reform seems to become. Thus the more draconian policies the police must enact, so that only power-mad bastards would want to be one. Ad infinitum.
It's the same thing as the cycle of poverty informing most crime.
Crime will never stop. So, naturally, police committing crimes is never going to stop. You just have to have systems in place to catch them similar to policing anything else.
"OMG I'M BEING BEATEN AND MUGGED!!!! SOMEONE CALL A PEACE OFFICER TO DEESCALATE THE SITUATION!!!!"
These people aren't to be taken seriously.
