It was different when I joined back in 2008. Not as many users, and fewer games, most of them created by valve.

Everyone was compelled to create accounts for it and use its client to play HL2, even on physical disc. Then it morphed into a sales platform rapidly, and helped accelerate the decline of physical media. And now it's a social platform where people lament other companies compelling them to use launchers for games they buy on it, but it's so convenient and has so many features, no one finds that as amusingly ironic as I do. It's the Amazon of digital distribution.
