Here in europe a part of the paycheck goes to insurances. You know, for instance for healthcare, which we don't need to pay top dollar for because of that.
So, while there's a smaller amount of net income, there are a lot more safety nets to ensure a higher minimal quality of life.
Middle class and upper middle class in Europe is far behind the american counterparts, but I would probably say under middle class USA sounds pretty bad.
