For people like us, online communication is life. But for them... It's a place to ex posit WHO IS PRESIDENT. WHO IS DATING WHO. WHAT IS WRONG WITH AMERICA. WHY GAS SO EXPENSIVE?!
For the rest of us, the internet is just... life.
Like, depending on time of day, you can tell who is controlling things by the amount of sports posts, cat posts, anti-Trump posts, or anime posts that make it to the front page without actually being popular naturally.
Remember, the creator of reddit said reddit was originally made to extol the virtues of a "Free and Open Internet" to allow what is actually popular to make it to the front page regardless of how "controversial" it might be. He then commits "self-delete" and the site is taken over by biased corpos and political agendas.
So when you give a platform to the loudest control-freak minorities, they are going to use it to try and control things, and to people not under their thumbs, it comes off as cringe.
Here comes that "why reddit is cool". Reddit was never cool, it's for you normie, wait for cake day, and grin. Don't try to make people care about it.
I was on Reddit for a while just for one specific game (Another Eden) and once I found out that the people moderating the forum were also using the forum that was enough for me. Might as well have been trash pickup day.
We can't be expected to solve everyone else's problems. This is the thing that's always annoyed me about racism and sexism. Everyone treats their problem as somehow society's problem, except for the part that EVERY person probably has some problem they're dealing with, and being a minority doesn't make you special or exempt.
And blaming society doesn't exactly endear you to people or garner sympathy. Just accept that YOUR problem is on a list of a whole BUNCH of problems that need to be solved, and that's what politicians and politics is for. If you're expecting the average person to help somehow solve your problem, you're expecting too much.
Humans are by their nature selfish, and not exactly wrong for being so. It's sort of a luxury to be able to have your ♥♥♥♥ together that you can afford to help other people as well. If you're volunteering to help the less well off, more power to you. But altruism is a choice, NOT a requirement.
Only troublemakers, trolls would have hard time with Reddit.
One other thing to note that Reddit caters to western views. if one is from internationally besides United States then it would be difficult.
We need new subforum platforms, moderated by the community, withou pressure by a parent company.
