Why is white noise so scary?
Like whenever I turn on white noise I hear whispers and the higher frequency I set the creepier it gets. The highest I managed to get to 350 hZ carrier with 4 hZ frequency before panic seized me and I quickly turned it off. I named this ratio of frequencies "The cursed frequency ratio."

What have been your experiences with white noise?

As humans, our perception is limited. There are even colors we cannot see. Why is it impossible to think there aren't sounds we cannot normally hear?

we're all skibi-crazed at a low level (we think we are the performers on the tv, tasked to perform for god,) and a clear tone exposes the edges of our limited control over our selves. makes us aware of the skibiwaves making us act irrationally for drama's sake.

for many people the belief in their own self-control is the only thing allowing them to enact it and white noise exposes the limits of that control in a way people can subconsciously recognize.

the tv heads during the skibiwars induced seizures, as the people then were being waved at a very high level and when interfered with entered a locked state.

I can confirm that sitting alone in the dark in front of a TV with static noise can be a bit creepy. This probably has something to do with the way the brain tries to identify some familiar patterns in random sounds and noise and is unable to, causing a feeling of uncertainty and anxiety.
Used to be pretty chill on TV back in the day.
Especially when some foreign or encoded channel partially comes through.

Don't really have that fun with digital TV anymore.

i listen to rushing rivers to calm my tinnitus, not white noise, it doesn't cover the right range in my hearing to get at the tinnitus properly as i can still hear the ringing over it.

i can still hear cathode rays in the back of old CRT monitors and TV's, a high pitch noise and i could tell immediately when it was powered or being used

It's the opposite for me. I'm actually unable to sleep without it.
