It would be lovely if at least Dune 2000 came to Steam.

Herbert Properties LLC own Dune. They are supposedly not been the greatest guardians of the Dune legacy, as anything Dune-related announced in the last few years have only ended in tears.

reminds me a bit of stargate. to this day no good stargate game has been made. none that was actualy finished anyway. the devs of that adventure game apparently vanished. rule seems to be to go down terribly if you ever work on a stargate game.

Does anyone know if Steam has contacted HP LLC to ask if they can provide the Dune game on Steam?

Frank Herbert died, and the books went to crap.

You really want dune games based off of the current cannon?

Wouldn't be down to them anyway. The game was published by Westwood Studios before they became part of EA, so EA would be the only people who could still have the source code. So you've got a very, VERY slight chance of it turning up on Origin but it sure as hell ain't going to show up on Steam.

I remember that really old dune game. not the rts. the one before it that starts off as kinda an adventure game and turns into a turn based strategy.

Weird game, but not bad.
The franchise is basically dead nowadays. I remember it was big in the 90's or at least in my local place.

Very sad, but very true.

This. Herbert's son destroyed the IP with one bad decision and one bad story after another. Much the same way Tolkien's son failed to continue the LotR IP, except there was already a strong enough Tolkien following to just write that crap off as what it was, money grabbing.

I like to imagine an open-world RPG in the Dune universe. Imagine if Bethesda would do with Dune, what they did with Fallout.

In any case, the RTS games died with Westwood.

Thing is that the Dune universe is so darn huge. Arrakis is only a small, though central, part of it. And you really couldn't do this playing as Paul/Muad'dib/Usul because the story is already done. Nor as a Fremen because, again, the story is known. But if you move it off of Arrakis, you defeat the entire IP. It will take a very special talent to be able to write the story line for a Dune RPG, and the main Dune universe decision maker(s) are not capable of it, or of approving it. Don't get me wrong, I'd really love to ride a Maker, but I just don't think they'd ever do it right to do it justice.

One can always dream. As I dream for Brutal Legend 2 and The Iron Giant 2.

Hi every one I have been doing some digging on the rights of ownership of the Dune games. From what i can tell EA Games lost there leas to the rights not long after publishing Emperor Battle for Dune and the rights has been passed around a bit since. The last company to have leased the rights was Paramount. They optioned the rights to produce a new Dune film in 2007, but they let the option lapse in 2011 and the film never got made.
To explain were the Dune film and game rights come in to it and why no one has been able to sell new copy's of the Dune games or even make a new one legitimately is because. The company formerly known as Herbert Limited Partnership HLP (now known as Herbert Properties LLC) appears to prefer licensing the rights as a bundle (TV, film, video games, etc).
Also I believe that since Herbert Limited Partnership HLP took EA games and 8 other firms to Court for copyright and trademark infringements has scared away any other firm from asking to lease the rights ever again.

Ok now apart from the Dune Novels (Books) and so far as there have been no more legal ramblings since 2011 of any company / firm out there making any new Dune films, TV shows and or games I believe that if the right person/s came along and asked Herbert Properties LLC to once more lease the rights they could make a fortune just selling the old Dune games and with the profits from that make a new Dune game or even try to do a kick-starter to start it off.
If any one dose ask this is a must make them compatible with all Win 7, 8.1 & 10.

sorry if this was a bit long i shortened it as much as i could the original text i did was 2 A4 pages long.

I hope the info that I have provided helps in some way
