What is difference from a goth and a emo?

Many people in my school call my friend emo and others call him goth.And i wanted to know what is the difference(if there is any)

Goths are people with an obsession about death and other dark topics while also having an odd tastes in clothes....they look like freaking cultists at times.

Emo kids cry too much. I....don't really know what else to say there.

Many people tend to blend the terms to mean the same thing. So the words start to mean very little over time. I remember people called Linkin Park goth one time.... I get it if you don't like their music. I don't like it too much either. But that was not a goth band. Some people just don't know what the hell they are talking about.

Back when Emos first started showing up, the joke was "Goths will cut other people, while Emos will just cut themselves".

Goths are about Gothic and Emos are about being all feels and emotions... Them not being mutually exclusive makes it hard to separate.

Based on my understanding, Goths are fascinated with things dark dreadful and terrifying, and are usually involved with cults dealing with supernaturuual things like demons, ghosts, vampires, etc. They typically dress up in black or other dark colors, and wear lot's of make-up, usually black lipsitck and black nailpolish. Think something like the Adam's Family. They also might try to suck your blood out in a back-alley if your not careful. Emos, in turn, are very apatheitc about everything. They literally don't care about anything, think everything is horrible, and just mope around all day. I'm suprised they can get out of bed. They typically have long bangs that are dyed a different color then the rest of their hair. They dress in dark clothing, sometimes stained with blood from cutting themselves. Unlike Goths however, they dress in more modern clothing, everyday clothing. Goths tend to dress in more fanciful, Victorian-era style clothes. Both of them however, like to hang in small packs and don't talk to anybody else.

i think of goths as children who are deliberetly shunning them selves from thier parents political philosophy. because they do NOT want to LEARN about polotics in general. they are terifide of having to stand up to thier parents over all political vews. so they regress into some thing that will not harm thier parents bank accounts, and will NEVER oppose Daddy's stock portfoleo. the sad thing is there are to many parents in this world, who have given up thier responsibility of bringing up the children into society. and if any parent trys to keep the child out of goth..... oh that's child abuse go call child services.

The labels are stupid. I despise both terms. There's nothing wrong with either style. However, they're much different in appearance, so I don't know how people confuse them. Gothic people don't typically have that anime appearance. They just wear dark colors than the average person.

For the stereotypical appearance and interests:

'Goths' generally are really into darker art, poetry, music (often classical), and victorian/steampunk/etc. clothing

'Emo' is a bit like a darker scene style. Usually skinny pants, band shirts, etc. Modern things.. I don't know what they're into other than some music, so I won't say much about them.

I used to hang out with goths. You're right except about the bloodrinking & involvement with cults part.

Some emos can be very apatheitc. Not all are though. Both emos and goths only hang out with like minded individuals -- size isn't an issue.
