4G Internet Gaming?
"I have been scammed by my ISP for too long! It is time that I switch to an ultra fibre internet that is reliable and cheap!"
I then looked at my phone...and thought
"Perfect..."
Problem is...
It isn't...
I tried gaming (non-steam games) on my 3G phone internet...but too laggy (although...I'll be honest...the lag was actually helping me get some headshots xD)
So I thought why not use my mobile internet to game?
Now, the game I was playing was a simple game...but Black Ops 2 on 3G?
Won't work...
But 4G? Specifically 4GEE...I live in the UK and my mobile provider is T-Mobile (which is now renamed to EE) and EE has advertised that 4GEE is 4x faster than 3G (They didn't say that, but their 3G VS 4G test shows that 4G is 4x faster)
So playing maybe custom zombies on world at war be playable on 4G(EE)?

For those wondering about my ISP speed.
(according to speedtest.net)
ISP:
Ping: 14ms
Download Speed: 60.58mbps (although I have never seen my download speed exceeding 10mb)
Upload Speed: 17.09 Mbps

Now time for my 3G test.
Ping: 173ms
Download speed: 0.36mbps
Upload speed: 0.26

Since 4G is 4x faster (if the test was true) then that means...

4G Test (Estimated)
Ping: 44ms
Download Speed: 1.44mbps
Upload Speed: 1.04mbps

So is 4G alright for gaming? I'm going to cancel my ISP contract, regardless if 4G is good or not because I'm the type of guy that anyyhing works so yeah...

I'm going to post this from my 3G internet and I'll tell the speed.
Edit: 6 seconds it took to post this, ISP normally takes 2 seconds.

Many wireless ISPs

1) ban steam outright on their networks
2) only allow a very narrow set of ports to work on the network
3) extremely latency sensitive depending on dozens of factors out of your control
4) many ISP rig the speedtest results

Many UK ISPs specifically block steam like Orange and 3G.

You cut the cord at your own peril

As Satoru rightly points out, wireless ISPs aren't "friendlty" towards Steam. They don't like ANY utility that uses high bandwidth, such as Steam.

And I think you're confusing MBps with Mbps.

So, no it's NOT worth it at all. All you'd need is a dozen games, and their associated updates and bang goes your data usage for that month.

What I would recommend if you're not pleased with your current landline ISP is to look at ISPreview.co.uk - we have over 300 (?) ISPs in the UK, and some of them are excellent. Note that you do generally get what you pay for - I use Fast.co.uk. A bit pricey but I've had ONE outage for a couple of hours in the course of 9 years. My landline can support 10Mbps, and that's what I get - exactly and consistently.
