Why do Minecraft clones make it to the store?
I dont mind that developers remake games for the sake of learning how to make games, but I dont think they should be released. Games like Creativerse ad GunCraft are Minecraft clones and even look exactly like Minecraft, yet they are on the store and people are buying them and giving them good reviews.

Just wondering why people dont shoot it down for being a clone.

why don't steam ban all call of duty since they're stealing Idea from all sort of other shooters like zombies and all?

you know there even serious articles that describe how COD almost ruined a whole generations of FPS games.

I din't say it ... so don't flame me , it's from someone else.

http://www.pcgamer.com/call-of-duty-red-orchestra-2-interview/?ns_campaign=article-feed&ns_mchannel=ref&ns_source=steam&ns_linkname=0&ns_fee=0

If peoples would shoot down every game for being a clone or too similar to something else then there would be almost no games on steam since almost all game are nothing completly Original and used previous games as an inspiration or template to build their own gameplay structures.

then minecraft itself is a clone of another game that came before it , I don't remember the name but it's easy to find out on google.

They aren't clones unless they're EXACTLY like Minecraft (and by that I mean every little detail, not just the visuals or core game mechanic).

Calling any cube-based sandbox game where you build a "Minecraft clone" is like referring to every FPS as a "Wolfenstein 3D clone." I couldn't even begin to name all the third-person action-adventure titles that could be called clones as well.

The point is that games take ideas, concepts, and even visuals, from each other and (hopefully) expand on it or at least offer some form of competition within the gaming market.

Besides, now that Minecraft is owned by Microsoft, it might turn out to be a good thing that there are alternatives available.

Minecraft is almost like a new genre. Blocky games are easy to make and doesn't look too bad. Thats why ppl make them.

Then you also want 7 Days To Die & Planet Explorers to be taken down or what?
since they have borrowed several ideas from minecraft

Minecraft clones? Hardly. Minecraft wasn't even the first game like this. This is the game that, verified and on the record, that inspired Minecraft: http://www.zachtronics.com/infiniminer/

All good points.. its just for me its like Minecraft came out and everyone was like "hey lets remake this and add in a new block and its a new game".

To me its like a game developer making a pong game as a first project then submitting it as a brand new game.

@Lemonfed I disagree. You cant compare RO2 with COD or COD with Counter Strike because they are different themes. However, you could compare all of the COD games since they are virtually the same haha.

Honestly I dont really know.. It just bothers me that games that are so similiar that they are almost the same are released. Its more of a personal picking on games than anything I suppose.

Fortunately for you, you do not have to buy those games.
Gambit 2014년 10월 22일 오전 11시 29분
Haha yeah I know. I'm just curious as to why people would want to play a clone of a game when they can just play the game that started it all in the first place.

I never compared these game directly and even the articles is more about how much COD where built to appeal to a mass of casuals players with very simplistic gameplay then trying to compare any game ...

thru RO2 and COD do share a similar theme , yes they're both war games ... the first few call of duty where WW2 FPS with some Historical background like RO2 and rising storm are ,

you know not only that but we could say that the very first COD is a clone of Medal of honors allied assault , both game had the same ww2 theme , same gameplay and even visually they looked very similar since they used the same graphics engine (quake III arena engine in this case)
.. tell steam to remove the first COD and it's expention pack , they're defenitly clones of Medal of honor allied assault and they're clearly frauds.

(at the time back in 2004-2005 there where many proffesionals reviewers that complained there was too many WW2 themed games just to say)

I'm not being very serious but that show's how much I find that bashing certain game for looking too much like minecraft is absurb.

Minecraft was fun at first, but the community is horrible. Looking at these games, they at least offer something at least somewhat different from Minecraft, and not just that they are on Steam, and Minecraft isn't. Don't think it's fair to call them "clones".
TristanMike 2014년 10월 22일 오전 11시 50분
Maybe it's because Minecraft isn't on Steam.
Naedmi 2014년 10월 22일 오후 12시 05분
Because people like them. And because (my little theroy here) 50% of Steam is 12 year old kids. And the other 20 is adults that act like children.

@Ford_Q2 I support you are right. I guess its just that Minecraft is/was so iconic and its famous for having its blocky terrain that whenever I see it, it just makes me immediately think "Oh look another Minecraft clone" but I guess its more than that like you said its about what they offer that is different from other games that are similar.
