Are "Skylanders" worth getting into? I don't know a Skylander from a hole in the ground...

I own a PS4, 3DS, and WII.

I figure I can try this out at low risk because my local Toys R Us is going out of business & everything is 40 to 50% off...

Are these single player friendly games? Which is the best game in the series? Is pretty much everything you need in the starter kit? Easy to assemble? Thank you!

No. The game is mediocre at best. My wife doesn't like it too much as there is a lot of rubberbanding when playing with another person.

They make money buy having you collect the Skylanders as there are places in the game only accessible to specific elements/classes of Skylanders.

Each generation requires you to buy the starter kit, even tough the same portal uses the same tech as the others and should still be able to read the previous/future generations.

The packs with extra levels are specific to that generation of the game and don't carry over to the next.

Skylanders figures have no backwards compatability with older Skylanders games, so you have to know what version each character is if you want to play the previous games.

Overall, it is a pointless money sink.

Invest just due to the going out of business sale, wait a couple of months and do some ebay sales.

Otherwise take the skylanders and shove them directly up nintendos Amiibo hole and stay clear of the physical object for a virtual game crap.

Skylanders is great for when you have five-year-olds in the house who don't know anything else and you have the patience to actually play that terrible and expensive game as they run off cliffs time after time. It's a cartoon is what it is. A cartoon with action figures that have roughly the same life expectancy as other action figures when children have them.

The only benefit that can be derived form Skylanders is spending time with children who are important to you, and perhaps providing jobs. I play it with my little sissters because it is better than playing "Dancing With The Stars." Even when all I have to do is move a Barbie I'm a terrible dancer. Other than that intangible value, it's good for nothing.
