No need to overpay, most "gamer" headsets are rubbish and usually overpriced for their quality.
You can use a cheap lapel microphone for under $1 each that are better than most "gamer" microphones I have tested, or a line clip mic like the Zalman "ZM Mic-1" http://www.amazon.com/Zalman-Zm-Mic1-Sensitivity-Headphone-Microphone/dp/B00029MTMQ
I just velcroed one of those cheap lapel mics under my monitor for when I need it, great for things like voip skype type stuff too.
If you want "near unbreakable" headset you would need to get something all metal ment for avation radio use, but they sometimes have questionable audio quality and can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars. All points of stress on the headphones need to be metal to metal, as plastic to plastic, and metal to plastic, will break easier.
Just remember, higher price does not always mean better quality.

i appreciate all the answers, guys. Sir dook, I saw some lapel ones on amazon that caught my eye and were a top seller, as well, so they must be at least halfway decent. Walsh, not sure about wireless, but i'm open to about anything, really
