My expectation is this to suck, just like the Superman movie. There will be some fight scenes to impress the kids and the drunk fratboys, probably an 'epic' fight in which Batman for some strange reason manages to go toe to toe with Superman without getting his head ripped clean off. And besides that, the movie will be some hot mess. There is now talk of somehow also cramming the Flash into this movie... I honestly can't see where this is going and the trailer makes it seem very much like this is going to be an "Injustice" Storyline. If that is for marketing purposes or the real deal... i just don't see how they'll cram all of that in one movie.
It feels like Marvel did spoiler their entire Avengers movie with trailers right now, so i am not so sure if that is someone to point to. And while i am a Marvel Fan, i really don't get why this is some sort of competition. I want a good Superman movie, and it is not like Marvel can do no wrong. Ironman 2 and 3... for example. They are horrible.
The irony is that DC, unlike Marvel, is still making animated movies that are actually good. Marvel is doing this crap amalgam of CGI and drawn graphics... ugly to watch, being dated on the technology before its even coming out, while DC does great animated movies. The latest Batman Vs Robin while certainly not their best, was still a very enjoyable watch to me.
But then i am looking at their live action stuff and its the other way around. Marvel being all confident in the writing and trusting their property and DC fumbling about.
I still don't see Batfleck working in the role of Bruce. All i saw in that opening trailer was Affleck looking out of place. I don't know what expression he was going for and what was that situation supposed to be like, but if that was his brooding face, then this movie is seriously in trouble. A close op of Affleck looking bored wasn't the best calling card.
And then i am hearing this whole "yeah its the suit from Dark Knight returns!" ... I just makes me sad. The Dark Knight Returns is an amazing Alternate History type of Story, in which Superman is completely twisted out of character to fit the narrative. And even in that storyline it requires Superman to hold back, because he doesn't want to hurt Bruce, the involvement of the Green Arrow and even with that... they only go to a stalemate with Superman letting Bruce win. And that the fight wasn't even that good. Superman going like "Bruce, you can't harm me, let's talk" and the Bat being all wailing his arms at Superman trying to find a way to harm him.
If i remember correctly Superman even ate an Atomic Bomb before that fight. There is even a mainstream comic in which Batman openly admits that he could never defeat Superman.
But for some reason all the fake Batman Fans, the people that don't care enough to actually know the source material and just run their mouths, are going like Batman could actually lay down some wooping on Superman. The really sad thing is... i expect that this is what we are going to see.
Its going to be as silly as the first Superman movie with Jesus Imagery and all that crap... and the military being all stupid... "Let's shoot that thing, we just saw eating a freaking anti tank missile, with our handguns! That will show them!" ... or pulling a knife on a superpowered being... as if that gesture was anything but pathetic. Except this time the guy with the knife is actually expected to win.
I find the absence of a villain in the trailer to be disturbing.
TL;DR
The newest trailer, if anything, showed that they are cramming to much into this movie and that my worst fears for it is going to be confirmed. Its going to be the same dumb action flick the first Superman movie was. With the kids screaming how cool the CGI looked and me shaking my head about how sad an representation of everything in that Universe and of these characters it is. With lots of facepalm movies and heavy handed imagery.... and plotholes... lords there will be plotholes up the whazoo again.
Though I do find it funny that the same people ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about movies that aren't out yet, are the same ones who will be first in line to see it though.
Personally I hope Batman wins because superman is kind of dumb and has never been that relatable having next to no flaws or any real humanity.
