Report: Microsoft Trying To Buy Mojang, Creators Of Minecraft
Though I hate sourcing Kotaku, I'm to lazy to get the other sources :P Source: http://kotaku.com/report-microsoft-trying-to-buy-mojang-creators-of-min-1632692098

Escrito originalmente por Kotaku:

"The Wall Street Journal is reporting that, according to "a person with knowledge of the matter", Microsoft is in "serious discussions" to buy Mojang, the studio that made smash hit Minecraft.

The deal is reported to be worth a whopping $2 billion, and "could be signed as early as this week"."

My thoughts:

If Mojang does do this, they will be one of the most hated companies ever I believe (I think I'm exaggerating a little). Also it wouldn't make any sense so not gonna happen. If it does happen, Microsoft simply lost $2billion lol.

Why would they lose $2 billion? Well a bunch of people will begin to protest. Not to mention that as soon as 1 limitation is added to the game Minecraft, more of an uprising would commense. The main focus part is/are minceraft servers and modding. If they mess with that somehow, they are screwed. Microsoft is going to screw something up. i just know it.

Alot of people have been saying that modding might be limited or be removed from Minecraft if Microsoft does do this. The reason for it is due to their recent steps taken against people who modded on Xbox Live.

This game has only recently been launched onto PlayStation. Hmm, I wonder if the microsoft version would gain any exclusive content...

But what are the chances that Microsoft wants to do this just so that they could get Minecraft support for Win 8 lel?

I'm surprised that this is in serious discussion. I would have thought that Mojang would have just said "No" right off the bat...

Update from PC Gamer:

"Yesterday's all-but-unbelievable rumor is today's "looking like it might actually be so," as reports that Minecraft studio Mojang is on the verge of being acquired by Microsoft continue to surface. Even more interesting, the word on the street is that the idea of the buyout came not from Microsoft, but from Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson himself."

it'll just be like Rareware, most people will not remember them, and the ones that do will patiently await something new to happen that's not total crap (banjo threeie? ;-;)
I thought that Microsoft already owned Mojang.

Except for the fact that I used to like Rare.

They're buying it so they can drive up the Xbox One's poor sales.
This is one that didn't surprise me in the least, really.
Microsoft will buy anything to drive up Xbox One's sales, alot of Devs that made Xbox One exclusives are moving the games to PC.

I cringe to think what they will do to Minecraft...but I also start to think about Minecraft with high-res, realistic graphics...then the idea of DLC and no mods sinks in.

Didn't the Oculus Rift guy say something similar about not selling the company? For $2 Billion, I'd sell Minecraft/Mojang too, then start a new studio.

Minecraft is an insanely popular game, and it's on nearly every platform, I think they'd do better in the long run if they keep Minecraft, and maybe release a few new games, or spin-offs of it. AMicrosoft is in a pretty sorry state right now, they're porting quite a few of Xbones games over to PC, I'm guessing they'll make some exclusive DLC or something and hope it ups sales.

I guess we'll see, though.

I don't think they can make over $2 billion with DLC though... I doubt they could make over $2 billion in profit using Mojang in less than a decade. They would have been better off investing those $2 billion into a game using the same methods as Destiny and GTA to gain such popularity. Minecraft feels a bit too old to make $2 Billion any time soon for Microsoft. Idk what good it would do owning the Mojang company.

how would that drive up sales? are you saying they will not sell it on Playstation and make it an xbox exclusive? I am sure they could get good exclusives for less than 2 billion, if that is their game.

It's not like Minecraft is aging badly though. That is part of the brilliance of it, the graphics aren't going to start looking bad in a few years (cuz they already do!).
The target audience of Minecraft is soo wide too, Minecraft could be a hugely powerful tool for M$ to bring people to Windows Phone, XBOX, Windows 8 and even 9.
think about it. Minecraft becomes exclusive to windows phone, xbox and windows 8 and 9. In fact, what if they bundled it FREE with their phones, consoles, and new copies of windows 9?

Minecraft is not worth it to save xbox, but if Minecraft saves the Windows Phone ecosystem, the xbox, and even windows 8, then that $2 billion is nothing.

I can see that bundling Minecraft with xbox would drive up sales, but that is a REALLY expensive exclusive. And if M$ ceases Minecraft PS4 and PC sales, Minecraft would die and everyone would hate it and hate M$.
