You get these little soft-glow nightlights and plug one in on your path

This, plus I memorize the way to various rooms in my house without even knowing it.
As an addition, sometimes I touch the walls to correct my pathing, sometimes even right in front of me at the feet level just to be sure.

I have pretty good dark vision and housemates never turn every light off. So there's enough ambient light to see pretty well in the dark.

This is very smart. Marking your territory is a good way to ensure you're in the right area

Sometimes you can just go on the way there to set it up. Kind of like how a robotic lawnmower is set up to mow lawns
