vivis character arc is often being considered one of the best in the ff series, and id agree with that. its heartbreaking, but touching and filled with important messages and themes. i also really like steiner, hes just zenigata from lupin as a knight!!! and i dont mean that in a bad way, hes so fun. the story has so many epic moments as well.
i love the system of learning abilities from equipment, and all of the party members (other than dagger/eiko, who are sort of clones of another with slight differences) are filling great niches in the party. the music is beautiful and very "sweeping", so to speak. if thats a fitting english word, i think so. hiroyuki ito was the director, same as ff6, so it was in good hands. of course, hironobu sakaguchi was involved as well (creator of final fantasy).
i kind of want to do a replay now...it has been a few years.
what kind of rpgs are you liking, l1qu1dator? if any? any srpgs or western ones perhaps?
Not JRPGs :P
What's srpg though? :P
strategy rpgs are like tile based "chess" style rpgs, it is difficult to explain.
these games are independent of eachother. play any one of them at any time.
the final fantasy-iverse is pretty grand. ff7 is nothing like ff8 both in story and setting. each story unique, and each adventure seperate.
they may use similar themes or mechanics, perhaps some world similarity, but they operate very different. the story is not linear.
If Xenonauts count as tile ones, then yeah, though I'm not sure why it even has that tag, there's not much of RPG elements there.
When it comes to JRPG or any RPG, I do need the graphics, visuals to be something I can look at and be amazed by.
Those nowadays outdated retro graphics are nothing for me when it comes to this genre.. So, perhaps once they come up with the remaster and improve the graphics, hm?
