It's one of the most akin to the traditional WOW or Everquest style of old school MMOs, and with so much free off the bat. I'd recommend you do NOT try to look at the cash shop as how the game is carved up is frankly confusing as hell.
Wait around for a sale and you will find expansion packs can be picked up cheaply. Even better, you earn currency in game you can spend to buy anything on the cash shop so you can work at it anyway.
I haven't played in a while, but I have every expansion except the last one or two, a few bits like extended bank slots and inventory, and yet have spent precisely nothing.
Second suggestion - Fallen Earth. A bit clunky but a bit like Fallout in some ways. A very decent MMO and because the current owners are working on a remake, it's totally free.
If you want further direction, I'd recommend going on Youtube and searching "josh strife hayes" as he has the most honest and comprehensive reviews of the best MMOs.
