PSA: Crabs and Lobsters Feel Pain
For decades there has been a myth that crabs and other shellfish cannot feel pain. This has justified barbaric behavior like boiling them alive and cutting off their legs while they are still alive. Humans inflict unimaginable pain on hundreds of billions of other animals without a second thought, yet whine when they experience the smallest discomfort or inconvenience.

When people don't know, they assume what is of greatest advantage to themselves.

Why you think I kill lobsters first before I boil them? Even when it comes to fishing I always kill the fish the moment I catch it so they don’t suffocate to death.

This.

I never understood why someone would boil a living being or eating a fish that is still ALIVE. That's just cruel.

Actually for fish oxygen is like carbon dioxide. They go to sleep.

Crustaceans not so much. There are methods but the uh, crack and scoop isn't one of them. Still pretty horrible.

Prove to me that they feel pain, you can't. They only looked at behaviors and chemicals. Worthless fake science.

Crabs are jerks who will snip you for fun, they're also delicious.
Imagine eating bugs. Couldn't be me.

As recently as the 1970s, surgeons thought babies didn't feel pain. They used little anesthesia and painkillers on them because they didn't feel pain, no need. This view in the medical community changed due to research in the 70s and 80s. Treating crabs and lobsters like crap is just par for the course.

And remember: Those were the "experts" of that time.

I used to crab with my dad in Washington state. After hauling a load, we would rip off the crab's shell and cut it in half.

I don't feel sorry at all for the crabs because crabs are expensive to purchase.
Gee, what a surprise.

Creatures with a nervous system are capable of feeling pain.

What are these amazing scientists going to discover next?

Lobsters and other shellfish have harmful bacteria naturally present in their flesh. Once the lobster is dead, these bacteria can rapidly multiply and release toxins that may not be destroyed by cooking. You therefore minimise the chance of food poisoning by cooking the lobster alive.
sorry dude, but you can keep crab and lobster in freezer

anyway what you describe is true with any meat, the rule is use freezer or salty water or plastic bag, metal can

So what? They're just oversized cockroaches that live underwater.
