There was one that I was repeatedly swatting away from my face, and it had the genius idea that it was going to fly directly up into my nostril. Empty head. No thought process.
They are kind of creepy looking but I've never heard of them being a menace.
I don't think that they're actually insects, but I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate them the most.
They can also spread plagues. Malaria is an example.
I wish all the bloodsuckers would just go extinct. I don't think there are any examples of a parasite being a keystone species. In fact I just did a google search and it seems for it to even be possible, the parasite would have to have to coexist with the host. So like it lives inside the host and somehow has a beneficial effect, like a symbiont. Which I would argue would not make it strictly a parasite.
