You're afraid of people (strangers at least), that's why it's hard to maintain eye contact. You gotta stop caring, they're just humans and according to my database the majority of humans is not very smart.
Same. I had one person get up so close to me that it was within the "intimate zone" and they just stared into my eyes. I couldn't remember anything that they said because my eyes were like, well, guess we'll just have to look back uncomfortably....felt way too personal. I did not like it.
Glad I am bad with names and faces, thank goodness. It's so much easier to just not do that kind of stuff. I guess I am attracted to intelligence, so really, I'm more interested in studying and doing creative stuff
Exactly. Like when I'm sitting right next to someone on a bus, I'll face forward and occasionally look them in the eyes, I won't just face them and stare at them, that just seems so awkward to me at that distance. Or if I'm walking along with someone, I'll walk forward and see where I'm walking instead of constantly staring at them.
I've found that even the best things I've had to say aren't heard when my eyes aren't gripping, and the most mundane subjects given consideration just by looking at somebody.
It's not hard, just do it. You make it harder than it really is, but the reality of the situation is that you are merely looking at another person. It's that simple. If you can stare at anything, then you can stare at a human.
I think, Asperger's is about to be seen and treated like autism nowadays, because, apparently, doctors have felt too under pressure and couldn't properly manage their job, which is gonna result in the inappropriate and rough treatment for people like me, but that's just the way it is, I guess. Literally, that's what a wilderness is.
Strong eat weak, and weak get eaten by stronger.
All I can suggest is not to think about it too much.
You should eventually make eye contacts, because It'll feel natural to you, and as have others mentioned before me, there's a few things to keep in mind, like to never stare at somebody's eyes for long periods of time, etcetera.
Anyway, I do like the way you've described it, because that's exactly what it is.
By looking people in the eyes, you can tell when they're lying, honest, happy, sad.. It tells you really a lot of informations about that person.
I, unfortunately, can't really tell when a person is lying or sad, I guess.
I've been trying to tell a few years ago when I was still attending a highschool, but based on the received feedback from them, I was so wrong that I've wanted to die outta shame and embarrassment, or they weren't willing to open up to me just yet.
Even to this day I don't know the answer, but all I need to know is that I do take them as real friends, and I'd be willing to bet that they can feel it.
I don't think, I can be of any help, as all I'd suggest would be to try and force yourself to do it and look people in the eyes.
You can see doctors, talk to your friends and ask them, but their answer is very likely going to be the same as mine.
Like I've said, you just gotta do what you gotta do. As long as you do have a reason and a bit of hope to push yourself forward, you shall eventually find the way.. And make an eye contact with other people with ease. You'll even laugh about it once you get older, even though it's not a matter that's of a lightweight.. It's pretty important.
It's hard because you overestimate peoples, nobody gonna read in your soul or anything like that.
A little help to understand how much peoples are close to nothing : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02Kgf9dCgME
