How do you describe taste of beer to someone who has never tasted it?

There are plenty of good beers. But the price is way higher than your usual grocery store beers.

But as for the topic's question, I don't know!

Beer, depending on the type, quality etc., has so many different tastes and no beer truly tastes the same. Even in the cheap ones there are some pretty good ones and some absolutely horrendous ones.

But I guess if I'd have to describe it in some way I'd say it's somewhat close to strong black tea. But even that isn't close.

Depends entirely on the type of beer. Some have a citrusy, almost juicy taste. Some taste like pure poison if they're overly hoppy. Others that are on the more malty side taste akin to liquid bread with spices.

If your beer tastes like pee, then buy better beer.

I think a lot of people wont try to upgrade after their first beer was tasting like pee, they will just think the next one will be similar

I never agree with violence. I have a better idea. Why not treat somebody who believes that Captain is a good rum, to another brand which is indeed good, instead? They will immediately aknowledge their mistake.

And there is the other possibility. Maybe those defending Captain Morgan, might have tried the actually half-decent "Private Stock"!

Alcohol itself is an acquired taste. So similar to coffee how it just tastes like dirt at first. With coffee you can mask that with sugars and cream, yet not so much or to the extent with alcohols. Beer will taste like cold piss for most people first tasting it.

If you don't wish to be hooked upon it, nor care about it, you logically should just leave it like that. Otherwise over time, you acquire a taste for liking it or even an addiction towards it.
