Early Access DLC????
Hi there,

I'm not a pro or anti Early Access, as i bought some.
One of them is going full release tomorrow, some will probably stay EA forever. That's why i'm not for nor against it. If done good it can be a good thing.

But when i see that they start to release Early Access DLC like Don't Starve I just think the devs behind that are just taking advantage of the Early Access thing.

What do you think about it? Abuse or not?

Please don't debate over Early Access game are good or bad thing, but rather Early Access DLC being good or bad.

I do not think EAG is really that defrent from a full game.. i mean ya the game is under work..but its a game for any thing
And just as much as its open to reviews its open to add DLC and what not..

I do not think there using it, i mean if the game go out and then have DLC dose that really matter?
Edit
(ok now i notice that you mean only the DLC is Early access So i am editing it)

Well i agree i also think in these case they may be some what abusing or just wanting the EAG name XD
I mean i can see the point of them to do it as it may be a big add of things to the game that may harm it much
Yet doing a Early Access on it dose seem a little off.. i mean i think its ok some what.. but only if its something really big.. that can maybe compaer to a small game.. not to any DLC that they want to make
End of Edit

I saw that the other day. It's ridiculous and abusive. This needs to stop....
Oh we've been moved to another forum? Why so many EA discussions are allowed on Steam Discussion and this one has been moved to Off-topic?

Actually i haven't thought about having a DLC while the game is still EA, i'd probably find it weird. Since the base game is still supposedly a work in progress. That would be like we say in french "mettre la charette devant les boeufs", doing things the wrong way basically.

About that Don't Starve Early Access DLC i'm not sure if it's a big one. I don't own the game, i was looking into it when i saw that. So i can't tell for sure, but it seems to have a few more characters, longer game time apparently and more maps or bigger maps. Maybe if someone has it he can tell us more about it?

You're saying maybe they do that to have the EAG tag, but what's the point of having that tag since some players stay away from EAG?
Are they featured twice on the main page if they do that, once saying an EADLC is out, and once more saying the full release is out?

Why not doing the DLC as a free beta before it's final release like many games do, even without rewarding the beta testers i'm fairly sure plenty of players would still be willing to try it.

I can't help but agree, while I respect that indie devs may need money to continue to develop their product and eventually finish it, I think the whole Early Access system needs to be looked at again, with community feedback taken into account.

I don't agree that DLC should be allowed to be sold for non-F2P Early Access titles, it reflects bad on the developer, showing that they are trying to make more money on a title which people have already invested in, yet they still haven't finished making. I feel like the game you put through the Early Access system should be finished BEFORE things like DLC are released.
The game is indeed finish. But the DLC isn't. DLC is extra content, either you finish it, polish it before the final release. Or you just don't release that DLC.

Early Access DLC is just bad in my opinion :(
I just think of it like Kickstarter "tiers". You can help the developers out with more money, and get a bit more stuff as thanks. DLC, being optional extra purchases, is the natural way to translate that system to Steam. Seems perfectly valid to me, certainly not "abusive".
I really don't get what the problem is. If you don't like early access games, don't buy them until they're full releases. Where's the issue? Plenty of things are sold in a not-quite-complete stage. As long as they're complete when they are supposed to be then what's the problem? It's sort of like prepaying for a fancy meal that will take many hours of preparation.

Personally I won't be buying the Don't Starve DLC but not for those reasons, it's because it changes the game far too much and makes an already super-difficult game an absolute nightmare to play. The bugs caused by it being in earlier development stages will be ironed out.
Again the same, if you don't like it, don't buy it....

The point isn't do we like it or not. But should Early Access be more regulated or not? As i said on my first post, i'm not pro or anti EA. I think it's a great addition to steam if regulated properly. We've seen great EA games, some not so good. But i prefer having EA where developers can try out original games (like Viscera and such) with early access to see what works and whatnot, what's appealing and whatnot. I just think some devs see it more as a cow-milk and/or an excuse to release ♥♥♥♥♥♥ games or contents. That's why i'm no pro or anti EA

Regarding the EA-DLC i think it's just a big joke with no advantages or whatsoever to the buyers. Why instead of making them pay to "not fully finished extra content" give some free beta access to the ones willing to try out/play that content ? Polishing it with their reviews then releasing it once the devs are satisfied with it for the full price?
Because in many cases, they need the money in order to continue their work on it, as many of these ea companies are very small indie developers. No company can survive doing just free updates forever. Supporting an ea product means you are supporting the company's work and helping them to bring new things to the market. I guess the best way to try and view it is as "kickstarter lite". There's no "regulation" needed for such a thing, nor should there be any. People are perfectly capable of policing their own buying habits, all that is necessary is the warning that you are indeed about to purchase an ea product.
