Facebook is doing this, because they know their social site is in decline in 10 years it wont be a relevant thing anymore, more likely less than 10 actaully.

So to counter that and keep their spot in the market they have been buying up alot of other services/companys, they want to own the social networking services.

Just like the soft drink brand, coke. Bought up all their competition, they want to monoplise it all and take control

They bought instagram for 1 billion, they bought whatsapp for 19 billion. Its too secure their place for the future, ie they are scared......i think the worst mistake they made was going public, bubbles always burst in a public on the market company and they surely will and oculus rift will be left under a heap of rubble....wanting forgivness
