PC Gaming and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
"I've been PC gaming since aslong as I can remember. But never have I expected this. As I type this message I can feel a slight pain in my wrist even after i've taken my new medication.

PC gaming has always been a hobby of mine, like most people I did it to get away from it all. Even if just for a minutes. But only about a week ago, after playing a game of CS:S, my wrist started to hurt. I didn't think much of it, and went on with my life. So for the next few days my wrist was having moderate aching, nothing to sierious, and I played my PC and worked and you know, the whole bit. That was until Tuesday. When I played another game of my usual CS:S, the pain got horrid. Just in the middle of a match, so I told the guys to continue without me. And I logged off.

By Thursday I decided to go to the the clinic. Turned out I had servere Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, I asked what the 'severe' was all about and he said, "It will hurt... alot. Mabey for the rest of your life." He figured that the PC gaming did it to me. I told him that it wasnt an all the time thing. He said it didn't matter, the damage was done over time. So he gave me my pain meds and sent me on my way.

So here I am. Sitting on this computer typing about my new crippled wrist. Which is kinda funny seeing how being on this computer isn't gonna make it any better... I now can't even pick up a juice container without the pain. Oh well. As he said, the damage is done. Whether or not i'll even consider playing a PC game again."

That's sad man. I really hope you can recover over time, at least to have your basic routine back. I have a friend which is a great PC gamer, but because of his wrist pain, he prefers to play with a gamepad (he had something similar you have, but because of his piano lessons).

Anyway, don't blame yourself or "the world of games". These things just happens.

Take care.

Yes, I don't blame the games. It's not really about blaming its just about me taking some time off and let my wrist to hopefully recover. A gamepad I've never thought about it but that sounds like it could help. I would like to let everyone know if you're PC gaming sit upright to lock your forearms 90 degree angle and keep your wrist alligned, don't put too much pressure on your wrist. Thanks

Sorry to hear about this. I'm starting to get pain in my hand too, and I've noticed it is from using the mouse for extended periods of time (3 hours+). Trying to cut back the time I have to use the darn thing.

I'm sorry to hear this. I myself suffered a pinched nerve in my elbow which has similar symptoms. Here are some things you can do to help:

1) Rest the arm(s) in question. That's the important thing. Play one-handed games or even better, get up and walk around and limit your play time. If you are playing a game, stop the moment your arm starts hurting and rest it for an hour or so.

2) There are exercises that you can do to strengthen the wrist, elbow and surrounding muscles. Ask your doctor about what routines and for how long. Or search the internet on those exercises and durations.

3) Research Carpel Tunnel online to see what you are facing and how to manage it, but take care that you only follow advice from reputed sites like WebMD. When in doubt, ask your doctor for more info.

I hope all this helps. I'm not a doctor myself, but hopefully this will give you a direction on how to manage your situation..

I just sent you a friend request because I've had a similar issue but I'd rather not post my personal medical info on here. accept it, I'll give some advice and you can delete me from your list

The heel of my right hand feels numb quickly when holding and playing with a controller. I've been playing with a controller once in a while, but it's rather recently only since I have this. This stuff sounds worrying.
