1080ti still going strong, can't be effed with 40 series
I was considering a graphics card upgrade with the new 40 series, but don't see the point.

1080ti performance is comparable to 3060, granted with no ray tracing, and depending on resolutions. 40 series is a performance leap but not worth the ridiculous prices that are expected, and it's odd to me that the 4090ti was released before other 40 series cards. Now that EVGA has left the game seems like things will only get worse for buyers.

If buying a new card for a new build sure 40xx makes sense. But as for upgrading, trying to find excuses to upgrade but there's no compelling reason to do it as 1080ti is still king, when considering the price paid for it.

The only solid reason to upgrade, other than for better performance, is for Linux gaming. Pascal generation (GTX 10 series) lacks Vulkan calls (?) that are required for DX12 games to be played under Vulkan, so the performance of such games plummets.

i mean, if you're happy, and it isn't broken, no need to fix.

Nothing I want to play nowadays is even that graphically demanding. Just as well, as graphics cards are obscenely expensive now. ♥♥♥♥ Nvidia and whatever reality they exist in.
Im looking to get the 4090 suprim x but im not paying 2400 euros. Waiting till like april next year to probably buy it if the price has dropped. But before that im really looking forward to that new ultrawide from corsair im not excited to see the price tag though.

Might aswell just go for the 4090ti when it comes out. I currently have the 3090 so im chilling for now since this gpu destroys anything except ray tracing games.

If you play at 1080, then yes, a 1080 ti will handle virtually all your gaming needs for a while.

With my 1080ti I can still play almost all the latest games on ultra quality settings with good fps. Don't care about 4k and ray tracing is a hoax. So no need to upgrade either. I don't even think a new 40xx would fit into my pc case.

Your card can do ray-tracing, it just lacks a dedicated accelerator and thus isn't that good at it.
Try Minecraft with SEUS PTGI or Teardown and you'll see, just be careful:

You don't need to change it as long as it works and you do not seek 4K gaming.

This is my 7th year with GTX970. And as long as prices not returning reasonable levels, i am keeping it.
What are you saying, prices are at all time low right now.
Yeah, yeah. Whatever.

Are you living in a jungle? Rtx 3060 is 350-400 euros on my craigslist. 430-480 euros brand new.

Maybe he does. There's nothing wrong with that.

Hahahaha....

Nice one.

Quality of some posters here is evident. :gtfoheart:

About GPUs, i have truckload of games that i have not yet touched in my library and all of them can be played with my current GPU (at least 1080p). Until i finish them, probably next generation will be out. So, i can lay in my couch (or say wood, as i am in a "jungle" xD) while some gamers are going through "dude, is my 2060 Super good enough or should i get a 4070", or "bro, i have no issues with my 3060 but i want that 4080" type of dialogues all over.

Looks like until Uncle Sam gets a decisive victory in Europe / Asia, my motivation won't be high enough for consistent gaming.

Normally I get an upgrade when the new generation come out but this time I refuse to pay that sort of money for the performance increase they offer. Instead I am tempted to get a different monitor (in other words spend the money elsewhere).

Just don't buy Nvidia and thus stop supporting their monopoly
I know it doesn't matter for you, but the new Intel arc seem really interesting.

GPU´s might start to get cheaper again soon enough as well.

Why?

The US have invested into the silicon market, so the Republic of China, is not the only source (it is risky to have so much production in one place)

Competition.. Nvidia and AMD is going much more into the attack atm.. Intel I don´t really see as a competitor, but their new chips do look great for what they wanna do with them.

Consumer power is getting lower and it will take time before it raise again.

My point is. it is not really a good investment to buy hardware atm, unless you have too
:goodidea:

US finally understood it was a really really bad strategy to rely on China even if they don't own the technology itself (just production lines) and Uncle Sam also figured out that the rare elements in Earth Crust is much more crucial than it seems, so Australia went on to dispatch Chinese business a few years ago and in its way to start a huge business project on unearthing rare metals from Aussie grounds.

TSMC also saw the military risks in its own island and will be opening new factories in Italy, USA (Arizona) and a number of other SAFE places in the world, out of PRC's military threats.

I loved by 1080ti, had it for 4-5 years and it died on me last week so I was forced to upgrade

A xx60 card would still be in the 200-250 price range if bitcoin miners hadn't inflated the prices back when the GTX 10 series came out, so Nvidia realising people will pay anything they ask, have never dropped the price to normal levels.
