Caffeine has never had much of an effect on me as I've drank too much soda in my life. I can drink any energy drink and go to sleep easily, so I can't really give my opinion on energy levels, though RedBull is supposed to have the most.
There is no "best used for". It is all just marketing. If you look at the ingredients, they are close to being the same.
And don't drink them too often. I limit myself to two a week and only if there is a need for it. Had a friend that developed heart murmurs (two or more Monster/Rockstar a day). Doctor told him to stop the energy drinks and he did. The murmurs went away too.
And the zero calorie stuff is just plain nasty.
The Monster Protein Shakes are pretty nice pre workout too. Expected them to taste horrible but they're actually better tasting than the mix I normally buy...shame they're so expensive.
And "Because it makes me feel good" isn't the answer.

It can also kill in some quantities, depending on what you are drinking, even Green Tea.
