Why would I even need that?

Calculators have it built in, and can't even deal with 22 digits. Programming languages tend to come with predefined constants.

For me, it's always been 3.14159, and that's actually plenty of digits for "real life" applications. How accurate is the ruler that you use to measure the diameter of the circle?:-)
