Military time/24h clock anyone?
In the U.S., the 24 hour clock is typically referred to as military time. Frankly, I feel that using the 24 hour clock is a lot more helpful than using the 12 hour one because there is less confusion to referring to day or night.

I've noticed that when people look at any of my kitchen appliances and tech and see that it's set 24 hours, they have a confused expression. Then they follow up with, "Why do you use military time? It's confusing." Does anyone else get these types of reactions?

By the way, I have no connection with anyone in the military. I have been to other countries though and they also use 24h instead of 12h clocks.

Not directly, I always just switched between 12 hour and 24 hour. It only happened when the conversations were mixed military/civilian and we got the typical responses pertaining to "What are you talking about?" or "Why can't you use normal time?"

I suppose it's to be expected. Just like people accustomed to English Standard get confused by Metric. You're right, it is more precise, but there's nothing for it unless it becomes a standard.

I work on classic American and German cars all the time and have to deal with both... I'm Bi-measurable.

Somehow, despite superiority, that's not as appealing as bi-curious. I have no idea why.
i use military clock normally... avoids confusion when conversing with persons living abroad. i live in he philippines so sometimes idk/forgot time zones in u.s.a., new zealand, or australia.
I don't have an issue with someone choosing to use 24 hour clocks, even if I have to stop and think for a second before I know what time it is. And I never found it annoying when specifying whether it's night or day, I usually establish that before it even needs to be asked.

It's pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ standard with Nintendo. Their handhelds have been using 24 hour clocks exclusively since their handhelds have had clocks. I'll never understand why Nintendo insists on forcing it on people let alone why they ever started in the first place. At least the PSP gave you a choice.

I think the part that throws everyone off is having to pause and do the mental math with subtracting 12 because sadly, we have become accustomed to using calculators. People usually give up on looking at my clock and just ask me what time it is.

Unlike the metric system. I was actually taught military time at the same time I was learning to tell time in my school. (with 12 hour clocks)

I hope you're teasing them about their inability to subtract by 12, because you need to be.
24 hr time is very simple though. Here's an easy way to kind of help you if you're wanting to try and get used to it.

000 (AM) - 1200 (PM) and then back to 000 (AM)

In basic 12 hr format:
000 (Midnight) - 1200 (Noon)
1200 (Noon) - 000 (Midnight)

:lvl1pages: Everything up to 1200 would be considered morning time. (Ex. 0900 would be 9:00 A.M.)

:lvl1pages: Everything after 1200 would be considered afternoon/night time (Ex. 1300 would be 1 P.M.)

This may be a tad confusing to non 24h users.

I use both, I never had any problem with it. Dunno if I learnt it in my school or it was due to The Sims 1, heh. I remember in The Sims 3 you could set your clock to AM and PM with an update and I never did it because I'm more comfortable with 24h clocks.
Anyway, I don't need to make any mental math and such, I mean, it comes easily (to me at least). If I read 14:06 I know instantly they're saying 02:06 pm.

If I'm not wrong nobody told me it's weird or something else, I guess it is normal here.

On electronic clock, I always use 0-23 hours instead of 0-11 AM/PM. It's limitation of mechanical clock.
Wake up muricans and smell the metric system and 24h clock. It's 2015 not 1700. ;-)

Technically it's 0156 where I'm at. ;P

The Metric system isn't taught because it's considered inferior to many in the United States.
