Why are Bethesda games so broken? Do they even have a quality control system?
My guess is that all their games are spaghetti coded to oblivion (pun definitively intended). Fallout 3 is a absolute nightmare in terms of optimization for consoles. I still remember rebooting my pc many times when New Vegas crashes at the loading screen.

engine issues

tbh the engine is a god horrid mess but it works when it does.

it worked up until 4. Then they tried 76 and making it work a lot harder with multiplayer to boot. And welp yeah.

They really should patch the engine before making a new game. Each game making them less and less buggy laggy and crash prone.
I mean Fallout 76 is literally just a reskinned Fallout 4 with its UI heavily changed, not much else was actually changed, as things even in there are literally from Fallout 4, less we forget the Gas canisters in Fallout 74 that are everywhere, you only find in a lab in Boston if you look hard enough for it

You what whats worse? The Scorchbeast queen? Its literally just a reskinned Dragon from skyrim.
welp it was enough for it to be a horrid mess of a beta before the beta before a beta at release.

single player to multiplayer was a big step. Adding a bunch of other stuff too technical mechanics too.

Old engine. I don't have big nor small hopes for The Elder Scrolls VI.

Bethesda games are huge, they are much bigger than most other games, they are much more varied, they offer much more freedom to the player, it is just normal that the quality control don't work as fine as in most other games like Super Mario, God of war, Resident Evil, Street fighter and so on.
As far as I know every game that is so big and offer so much to the players end up having a lot of bugs.
People complain about Bethesda just because they are more succesful and their games have become more popular and more well known than other ones, like Ark for example (that I redeemed for free a while ago and I still haven't been able to succesfully launch, it always crashes whenever I start it and I just gave up at this point)

It is their game engine, hopefully they can move to IdTech 7 or 8.

I hate to say this but their not that big, DayZ's map alone literally is still bigger then all prior maps combined of Fallout 3 to 76, and it literally runs fine. The issue is just the game engine is bad.

Bethesda for the record, are not successful, their not popular in any logical sense beyond the fact your putting the idea they invented the Elder Scroll games, thats all they have, but saying that is like me giving Blizzard the award for best Warcraft game, they freaking made it.

Fanboys will always come out of the wood works after the topic started, god forbid this was one on freaking an anime series or worse, Starwars...

My guess is that they don't, or have minimum effort. They just lucky that the mod community is quite big and actually trying to fix their game.
Dunno if they fixed esbern voice bug in skyrim or not, but a few years back I replay skyrim and found that the bug is still present after 5 whole years since initial release, and it's quite game breaking.

Even their own mod system is so bad that people have to rely on third party mod manager.

Most other games are not so lucky.

I'm not talking just about the size.
The freedom they give the player makes their games extremely more complex than most other ones. There is absolutely NO WAY a quality control system could check every single thing in those games.
I don't know much abou this DayZ game so I can't make any comparison about the gamepolay but the size of the map is the least of the problems in games like TES, all the choices and freedom you are given makes evrything exponentiaslly more difficult to keep track of.

Also yes Bethesda is extremely succesful, expecially (of course) Skyriim, it is a single player game that after so many years is still played and it still sell more than many multiplayer games couyld even just dream to do.
Yes probably Skyrim is their only game that became so much popular and succesful but they are very well known for sure, other games are very popular too even if not as EXTREMELY populare as Skyrim is, and Skyrim popularity alone is enough to make them extremely well known to literally everybody.

They're absolutely huge in scope and there are a lot of pieces that work together to make the game work. I doubt any single dev on Bethesda's team has read every line of code in the game. They probably have different departments working on different things.

Right. Also if Bethesda games are so broken, why do they seem to have such popularity and longevity?

Skyrim SE: 19,139 in game with a 24 hour peak of 27,635. Released 6 years ago.
Fallout 4: 16,394 in game with a 24 hour peak of 21,941. Released 7 years ago.
Oldrim: 2,912 in game with a 24 hour peak of 4,340. Released 11 years ago.
Fallout 3: 473 in game with a 24 hour peak of 898. Released 14 years ago.
Oblivion: 697 in game with a 24 hour peak of 1,304. Released 16 years ago.
Morrowind: 258 in game with a 24 hour peak of 481. Released 20 years ago.

Keep in mind that for everything released prior to Skyrim it was still pretty common to buy physical copies of games, getting more common the older you go, so some people may be playing outside of Steam or on other platforms like GOG. Also source ports like OpenMW means there are people enjoying the 20 year old Morrowind outside of Steam's tracking as well.

Climbing works the same in Daggerfall as it does in Skyrim. Daggerfall just let you worm your way up things besides mountains.
This isn't correct. Daggerfall had a very specific climbing mechanic that you activated by running into the walls. There was a climbing skill it checked against. And Daggerfall had a completely different system at it's core called XnGine, which could do full polygonal 3d at a time when a lot of games were using that BSP technique to fake 3d that was pioneered in 1993's Doom. Morrowind was the first to use NetImmerse which later became Gamebryo. And yes, it's true that code from Gamebryo still exists in the so-called "creation engine" today, but it's been so massively modified from the original engine that it could hardly be called the same thing.

Because Bethesda relies on the modding community to fix their mess.

Why are Bethesda games so broken?.

Because they "just" work.

Todd Howard has said so!

Just meaning "barely" of course. :SafeForWork:

Never had that much problem with vanilla Morrowind and to some extent vanilla Skyrim SE (damn flying mammoths). Oblivion and FO3 are a different story though.

Tbh there arent many games that can render every single objects on its environment like bethesda games. If you drop 100 cheese in skyrim, you will find exactly 100 block of cheese on the game environment. Not to mention how moddable their games are.

So while creation engine is not most optimized one, it certainly has its own perks
